Import all data from Strava

Hi. I just tried to bring in all my previous strava activities - and became a supporter!

I got an email saying the import was complete, but it only added 12 activities, while it “found” over 2000…

not sure what to do now… !

Strava import complete

Intervals.icu has finished importing your Strava history.

12 activities created
Strava import for athlete i304136 from Strava | Running, Cycling & Hiking App - Train, Track & Share
Activity column headers are en
Found 2037 activities
Date format appears to be: MMM d, yyyy, h:mm:ss a Locale: en

  • Created manual i63227897 2015-07-28T05:40:00 Run Night Run, weight 72.5748 kg

Pick a couple of activities. Open the activity. Check the top right hand corner. It should say ~UPLOAD instead of ~STRAVA
This indicates that the activity has been replaced w the org file and not strava copy.

What I think happen.

2000 activities in Strava.
1988 activities in intervals.

These 1988 has been changed from STRAVA to UPLOAD
12 NEW activities were created. Somehow these are either new new or some other stuff. That you need to figure out.

Thanks!

At least one of your manual activities has elapsed time of zero. This was breaking the import. I have fixed this (these are skipped). Please give it another go. The ones already imported won’t be duplicated.

hmm… looks like I crashed and burned w/ my thinking.

Thanks for trying to help! Much appreciated.

I tried this, but unfortunately it does not import all of my activities. 2.158 out of 3.192.

The importer wasn’t handling manual Strava activities (no activity file) properly and you have many of those. I have fixed this issue. They will now be replaced as part of the import. Any comments etc. are moved across. Tx for the report.

You need to re-run the import. It won’t duplicate activities already imported.

Thanks so much @david, now there is just 44 left. Should i work on the manually, or do you have e fix for those as well?

The ones with no time have been skipped for that reason. The hike on 10 Apr 2022 and the run on 30 Jan 2021 have corrupt fit files. You could try download a different file format from Strava and manually upload that.

The next swim is duplicated because the duration is not the same. You can probably just delete the Strava one.

I suspect that is probably the case for the others as well.

Thanks david, understood  Your help is very much appreciated.

I just did this… took awhile, but all 3382 activities have been replaced… and are now coming through the API.

What happens for future activities? New activities coming through the Strava API will not be available correct? What is the strategy going forward, should I disable the Strava connection in favor of Garmin or something else?

THanks

You should connect the source of the activities (e.g. Garmin) and keep Strava connected. Intervals.icu will delete the Strava activities but it will copy the segments across and link the Garmin one to Strava as well as Garmin.

Ok, I now have both Garmin and Strava connected, so I assume, I’ll be able to get them through the intervals API since Garmin is also a source for the activity, and the intervals code will prevent duplication

Hi there
Imlost all my data from Strava on Intervals
I initially tried to try the functionality of “Import old Data” and limited the download to a month. This failed
So I limited it to a couple of weeks … that failed.
So I contacted Strava to get the link to my archive as requesting it from the link on Strava and it failed time after time. I eventually contacted Strava direct and a pleasant assistant helped me out and I received a link
I put the link data into the right place in settings on intervals.icu.
Still nothing updated after a week of waiting
I downloaded all the data myself as the link was only valid for 7 days ….a zip file that contained loads of folders etc
Any chance of a bit of help please to get my system updated ?
Many thanks
Pete

When you say the Strava archive import failed, what happened? I just had a look at your calendar and you have activities from the import (example this one). Click Options and tick the “Source” box on the calendar. The ones marked “Upload” are likely from the import. You can confirm by clicking through and seeing if they link to Strava.

Morning David
Most of the activities say Zwift, some Strava and a few say upload where I’ve had to manually upload the data.Of late, with many of the activities I’ve done on Zwift they have not been automatically transferred across to Intervals and I’ve had to download the .fit file from Strava and import it. Would this be linked to why the data from the link hasn’t been uploaded? The link is for 5 years of data and barring a few that I uploaded manually for rides for the last few months in 2024 there’s no previous data

Hmm. You are not currently connected to Zwift. However I can see from the logs that you were recently and disconnected 30 mins or so ago.

You have Strava configured to only download “Ride” and “Walk” so the "Virtual Ride"s from Zwift via Strava are being ignored. You need to re-connect Zwift and tick “Download Activities” and make sure the filter is “all activities”. Then re-enable Strava downloads for everything. Intervals.icu will replace the Strava rides with the ones from Zwift and link them together.

The Zwift integration doesn’t support history but new activities should come in.

Did you receive an email from Intervals.icu with a log of what was done for the Strava archive import? It says:

Ignoring activity types not in [Ride, Walk]

So you had that filter on when you ran it. Better to just do “all activities” so your Zwift history will load.

You need to request a new download file from Strava. You won’t get duplicates. Also remember that the import can take a long time (hours).

Thanks for that David
Looks like I have to wait a few days for a new download link from Strava but as soon as I can I will do so
Pete
