This clearly shows that it was a a very wise decision to make sure that Intervals is not violating any of the Strava policies.
If Strava feels strong enough to sue one of the major brands, more ‘wars’ like this may surface in the near future.
I’m not sure if that’s such a smart move. This could push Garmin (and their users) away from Strava to alternative platforms (intervals.icu !!)
Risky for Strava imo. The forthcoming IPO could be significantly affected (either way I suppose) by the way potential investors interpret what the outcome of the case will be.
I am looking forward to Garmin’s initial response.
You’d think that they’d have stopped intentionally trying to shoot themselves in the foot by now.
Distinct sound of a fresh round being loaded in background
This is a bad move of Strava. Strava’s recent API restrictions and now this lawsuit signal a shift from open collaboration to aggressive IP protection. That’s really bad news for all indie developers and open-source tools. I’m thinking of cancelling Strava completely.
And I don’t really understand why these patents are still valid (ok, only in the US of course
). These kind of patents could only survive because they’re rarely challenged. But if Garmin pushes back, these could crumble under scrutiny. So maybe this is even good news and these patents will be finally invalidated.
(just dreaming, Strava will withdraw the lawsuit before)

We consider this to be YOUR data. If you recorded an activity on your watch, we think that is your data. We believe you should be able to freely transfer or upload that data without requiring logos to be displayed
I remember there was something about MY data, and their API … ![]()
This whole comment from him, sounds like Kindergarten. This is so stupid.
The comments are funny though.
Has Intervals had a similar request from Garmin to include there logo on any synced data?
Strava is lying. They aren’t even to forced to show a logo. It is sufficient to show the device name next/below to any chart. Intervals is doing it that way.
Embarrassing for Strava to have a senior staffer post that.
This is a great opportunity for Garmin to earn a lot of kudos from Strava users - maybe even enough to get traction with some of its stravaesque features and really hurt Strava.
If I was Garmin, I would be considering offering free subscription periods to Connect+ as part of the response.
Yes, but not a logo, just text. Intervals.icu implemented that several months ago.
Strava have never asked me why I haven’t renewed a premium subscription. It has nothing to do with Garmin, so them blaming Garmin for loss of revenue is an assumption. They should be asking every non-premium subscriber why they don’t pay.
Charge a small service fee to allow data to flow through their servers to 3rd party providers; I’m sure they’ll get more income that way than trying to provide features that are not value add at all. Maybe I need to patent that idea, and ask for a royalty.
The way they acted liked my data was their data was the reason I deleted my account. Such hypocrisy.
In my opinion Strava should not be very economically well, there must be something that can slip from their hands and from one moment to the next to make a pufff.
I say this because it is noted for some time that they have been conflict with everything and everyone, which is bad, then the increased signatures, even serious,
They have con artist attitudes.
In my case I was a premium member for many years more than a decade, because of these attitudes I stopped being, now a few months ago I received a discount, in which I spared 15 euros, I thought of giving a hypotheses, and took the opportunity to see what in this time when I was not a premium member what would have changed, and advanced,
What is my astonishment when they charge me on the card the total amount without the discount. I have been discussing and calling them thieves for about 3 months since I feel injured and buried. I have already sent all the proof, and do not assume what they are thieves.
My question that I never put anywhere, the segments we created, if
They have disappeared or stay there forever, is that my desire is to erase all my segments, which I suffered a lot and a lot of money I spent to create them, for them now to think that it is all their own.
You don’t need to be a premium member to create segments. I’ve created segments with and without a premium membership, and they are still showing.
You do need a premium membership to create routes.
I’m planning on deleting my Strava account. Would there be any negative impact on how my activities get imported into Intervals? I currently use Zwift for indoor activities and a Wahoo head unit for outdoor rides. I think I’ve set up Zwift to upload my workouts to Intervals, but I don’t think I can upload directly from my Wahoo to Intervals. Is that correct?
Yes you can import directly, you don’t need the Strava for anything in your case, except for the segments
Thanks, I’ll snoop around on how to set it up.
