I create my workouts in Intervals and download them to my garmin head unit (Edge 540). But when I do harder intervals (basically anything above ss) I dont want to be using ERG mode and use self-pacing to get the desired effort instead of being stuck at a set ERG power. When I create workouts with a power range Garmin interprets this and sets the ERG power always to the average power that I set. Is there a way to turn this off and simply set a resistance or free ride setting for just those intervals. I want to be able to still create the workout with the power profile I desire and for it to show up nicely on my calender but any power i set as a range will auto be sent to Garmin as the average.
Would setting my target to 3s power or instant power instead of lap power do this for me?
Right now, my only workaround is ignore the workouts I have in intervals, go into Garmin Connect, and make a copy of the workout with HR as the Primary Target and my desired Power Range as my Secondary Target so it still shows up on my head unit but doesnt hard set ERG mode. This is just pretty annoying though as I have to create two copies of a lot of my workouts.
I believe the best solution for your case would be to have a workout where the mode switches to non-ERG like slope/incline or resistance during the harder segments.
As far as I know, this isn’t possible on Garmin.
Have you considered using another device? I’m fairly sure that Auuki allows this kind of instruction within a workout, and in general it offers many more possibilities. And free of charge.
You cannot have a percentage or range after freeride, cause the the Edge will follow that percentage or range.
I usually put the range in as a comment in front, as this.
