I’m trying to understand why these values are so different but have not quite seemed to find a thread discussing exactly this.
For instance, for me, my eFTP lines up identically on the settings page and on the power page, but I see very different eW’ values. Note that this is for running.
My eW’ is nearly double in the settings page vs what is displayed on the power curve. I don’t really use this to inform my training all that much since I do pretty much everything based off of pace on track, but I still like to understand the nuances of all the different modeling methodologies.
After doing some clicking around, I realized that the selected modeling methodology seems to explain most of the discrepancy - selecting the eCP model on the power page gives a number that is now nearly (though not quite) identical for eW’, however, now eFTP is quite different!
It feels a bit strange that the two different eX values on the settings page seem to be pulling from different models, especially when they give such different predictions for eW' - though I think this is partly an artifact from not really having any maximal efforts in the expected windows as all my time trialing has been >35min and all my interval training is usually on the order of 3-8 reps so not quite appropriate for generating the relevant modeling efforts aside from some kicks on final reps. Still, some clarity here would be useful. My hunch is that the very different estimates come from the fact that eFTP is a fair bit higher than eCP, so when W’ is estimated relative to eCP, naturally there is a much higher energy reserve available, which is essentially equal to the energy difference between outputting eFTP and eCP for the specified duration that W’ is being estimated at.
Anyways, I typically prefer the data on the pace page as opposed to the power page, but still, just trying to get a sense of what’s happening under the hood here.
To me, it seems that for the Wbal depletion charts to be accurate, it would be important that either you have set the co-computed W’/eFTP pair, OR the co-computed W’/eCP pair, but never mix the two; however, the settings page seems to be doing just that for the estimated values.
