Using activity calorie as proxy for running power

Hi Guys,

I’m one of the unfortunate folks that can’t measure running power during my activities. Now that it is possible to compute custom activity fields, I am looking for ways to derive some proxy power data from the calories measurement given by my garmin.

Currently I’m trying to calculate my Efficiency Factor using power derived from the activity calories calculated by my watch. I get values around 0.2 for my activities, which maybe is ok considering I’ve been running for around 6 months (and not so seriously).

Have someone made something similar to this or was able to compare real running power with calories metrics?

How do you think the calories are calculated? As far as I know, they are derived from the heart rate or MET factors table. This data is already abstract, I think it is meaningless to use it for anything.

If you want to track efficiency, I’d rather follow the speed/HR = distance per heartbeat. This is the standard running efficiency metric

Also, best not to compare these metrics to other people, they are not comparable. Track your personal changes instead
