I have the previous generation 12spd sram red xplr groupset and a Garmin 540 computer.
I followed Sram’s guide for pairing the derailurer to the head unit and now I can view my gear selection on my garmin during a ride, so I’m confident the two are paired.
I’ve confirmed that the custom streams are enabled, so my only thought is maybe the gear selection data isn’t in the data when it lands in Intervals? my pipeline is (I believe) computer → garmin connect → Strava → Intervals.ICU (I think).
I tried to download the activity fit file and view it in Emacs and it seems to be some kind of format that can’t be decoded / viewed as plain text in my editor.
Anyway I’m a bit lost as to how to troubleshoot this further, but I absolutely love the platform keep up the great work!
Your post prompted me to look at some of my recent bike rides and see if gear ratios were coming through via the fit file.
My TT bikes both have 11 speed SRAM Red eTap, and I can see the gearing information on the Garmin head unit and on the activity record in intervals.
My Road bike (a 2023 Canyon) has 12-speed AXS SRAM Red, and while I can see the gearing information on the head unit, it’s not in the activity record on intervals.
I think I’ll need to look into this!
If the activity comes through Strava, this data is stripped vy Strava.
Get the activity FIT file from Garmin and try again.
To view the content of FIT, use Fitfileviewer.com.
In my case, I have nothing to do with Strava.
I’m poking around various fit files and looking at recorded activities in Intervals and Garmin Connect. At the moment it looks like the gearing data stopped being reliably stored in the fit file around the end of June. In activities recorded before then, I see gearing data in both Intervals and in Garmin Connect. As I recall, I’m using a ConnectIQ app eGear+ to embed the data in the fit file, but the last app update seems be 24th December 2024. It may be a Garmin system update has changed something…I use an Edge 840.
Update: I don’t think my SRAM AXS bike activities ever showed gear data. My 11-speed eTap bikes did until the end of June. (looking at the fit files, the gearing data from the AXS bike appear in a different section of the file than do the data from the eTap bikes).
I recorded an activity from my club time trial last night. The bike I uses has the older SRAM 11-speed eTap system, and I log gears in the fit file using Inigo Tolosa’s eGear+ ConnectIQ app.
The activity viewed in Intervals does show gearing data. I suspect I had a problem with ConnectIQ either on my Garmin Edge or my phone. All seems to be working as it should.
If the activity comes through Strava, this data is stripped vy Strava.
This was how I resolved it; I changed my settings such that Intervals reads directly from garmin connect and the gear change events are now present in the data analysis / fit file. thank you.
