Training Load icu vs garmin

Hey there.
today i did running intervals 4x4min @183 HF with 2min breaks,10min run in and out.
on icu it shows only a load of 47 with form of 4 (so no form loss)

whilst i felt it be heavily exhausting and garmin showing me a load of a whopping 250
TRIMP is 79

so i dont quite understand why icu only shows such a small form and load.

maybe someone can explain  tell me if you need more data

What are you using for HR training Load calculation?

You don’t have Power and Threshold Pace is not defined, so you must use HR load. HRSS should be the best in this case but you need a correct HRmax and a daily HRrest for it to function. Try all three options, they will probably differ quite a bit.

Second thing is that Garmin’s Exercise Load is NOT the same metric as TSS. Garmin will display TSS if you have Power. Exercise Load is usually a bit higher then TSS.

Don’t expect to get similar values when using HR load. Pace Load will return better results, test and define your Threshold pace. Power would allow to compare Garmin - Intervals. TSS will be the same in that case.

I think Garmins ‘load’ is actually EPOC, it has a different unit than the TSS used in icu. A TSS of 100 means the maximum you can do for one hour, and since your running time was 26 minutes, even if you run faster than your maximum 1 hour pace, the half hour would mean a TSS of maybe 50-60 max.

Others have pointed to the way load is calculated so let them continue with that part…

That is correct.

The run is ~40min and if it were at threshold, the load based on power or pace would result in 67 TSS (2/3 of 100). 54 TSS at 90% 43 at 80%.

Based on underneath article, EPOC load can vary for the same output because EPOC will be higher when you’re in fatigued/stressed state vs being rested/tapered. EPOC uses input (HR).

Load by pace/power will be the same regardless of you’re state of recovery because it measures output.
