To rest or not to rest, that is the question?

Yesterday I was at 214 TSS training in Z2 and Z3.
Garmin tells me to rest 64 hours. My CTL is 123 ATL 124 form -1%. Can I go out on Z5 intervals or should I rest? I feel cool

Get out - that Garmin recovery time indicator is just that: an indicator. It probably looks at a couple of things, like your (usual) training load and form, but it only takes your activities recorded with that (or a Garmin) device, so if you Zwift or use another app to train, it doesn’t take that into the equation.

I have mostly laughed at it, although I have never reached 64 hours - I think my max was 36 or something :joy:

hi, I don’t think Garmin is accurate in terms of recovery. Maybe the new models from firstbeat are better; however if your CTL is 123 and your ATL 124 and TSB-1% it suggests your training load is pretty stable based on your recent history and your body (all things being equal) should be able to handle doing the same load as before. With a TSB of -1% there is also room to do a little more if you wish. But this applies to the next week not necessarily to today or tomorrow. Sometimes doing the same as before can be too much on a daily basis which is why your bodily sensations (eg DOMS, tiredness, exhaustion) should generally overrule pure TSS figures (especially in training > race events). HR, resting HR, HR variability may provided additional insights for some people. I go into this in more detail here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IwWvPQyTIyg&t=593s
