Super Sapiens and monitoring glycemia

Hello,

I have bought and tested a Super Sapiens device lately. Actually it’s an Abbott Lifestyle 2 CGM with the Super Sapiens interface.

My first note is just on unboxing the device : Unboxing and discovering SuperSapiens – hic et nunc

Have a good we !

I wanted one too, just to see what’s going on during a high intensity Zwift race. Is it possible to integrate that data with Intervals.ICU? Maybe capture this as “wellness” or “energy availability”? I’m not sure.

Hello,

I will publish more data next week I think. I contacted SS (not great branding though) to discuss stuff (good and quirks) but they are not fast in communication so I will publish my blog notes like they are.

Right now, there is no way to read the data outside to the smartphone app or their upcoming watch like device and this is a big big big drawback IMHO. But I hope they are working on this.

I love the idea, but it is crazy expensive!

Thank you for sharing, interesting to see the device in use and effect

There’s even the Abott Libre which is a 14-day sensor. Still not cheap. Depends what you want to do with it to justify the cost.

I’m using the Freestyle Libre for my diabetes. Seems that they used the same sensor with a “fancy” new app.

If it is indeed the same sensor, the protocol should be known. I’m using something called MiaoMiao which is a device you mount on top of the sensor to get continues monitoring without the need to scan the sensor every time: https://miaomiao.cool/ It converts the NFC signal into Bluetooth which then can be read by e.g. the XDrip app on Android.

There are other implementations doing this. So the protocol in general should be available.

Hello,

I guess you are using Freestyle Libre v1
Sapiens is v2 it maintains the connection via BT without the need for a NFC scan but only if you are far from you phone for a long time.
Freestyle v 2 is available in France for diabetics since this summer.
Also v3 has got it’s EU approval last october.

A (longer) ride

sad I could do only one long effort with the device, I plan to do longer rides at the end of spring inch’Allah

Thanks for sharing this!

Which program do you use to measure whether you are burning carbohydrates or fat?
Is there a Garmin IQ App?

Interested in this too, if there is a way to get the data from supersapiens into intervals.icu !?

If it ends up in the .fit file somewhere I can make a plan.

Since this thread is under “Training”, can anyone guide me to actionable outcomes of real time monitoring of glycemia apart the obvious ones like: “if it is dropping fast, then consume carbs asap until it goes up again”?

Are the device reads so accurate one can trust the figure as a proxy of glycogen reserves availability and consumption?

These are real doubts from someone who is in the fence about this…

hello, from a recreational athlete POV I really see this device as waste of time and money. I have tried a lot of experiences you can find on my blog (in french or in english)

If you are Gustav Iden or a pro cyclist in team Jumbo with a data analyst and nutritionist maybe you can get actionable levers
