I have noticed that the strava descriptions are not coming across any longer on my workouts. But as late at Nov 5th my atheltes are, but more recent ones are not. I wonder if it is a setting I have perhaps the 3rd party cookies. I enabled that today but I no longer see button to resync the activities under actions. Any help is appreciated.
Iâm still having trouble with this is there anyone else having this problem?
I am not getting my comments on strava to come over to intervals.icu nor from intervals to strava. Can I get some help on this problem?
I record to Garmin which then gets posted to both Strava and Intervals.icu. I also have intervals connected to both Garmin and Strava.
I sometimes put in description in Strava and sometimes that would come across in intervals.icu as a note, but sometimes not.
Today I just realized that it only works if you also change the Strava title. If you leave the Strava title as default, the description would not come over as a note.
Anyway, I think that is what is happening. Maybe that is by design and itâs an easy fix on my side just to modify the title, but thought I would report it in case itâs a bug and/or general awareness for others.
Hello!
I have an issue with importing the descriptions I have in my strava activities. It seems they are imported randomly, sometimes they appear in Intervals.icu and sometimes they do not appear.
I usually write the workout session in the description so it would be very useful to have them all in intervals.icu to filter and search.
see exemple in the image attached
does someone have any advice?
thank you for your help
Yes, I logged this as a bug, check the Bugs section or my post history. You can add a comment there.
But what I found is that if I set a title, the description comes over. It looks like you leave the titles unadjusted, so maybe there is some other field you are also changing besides description?
In my case, it appears that every time I set a custom title it also pulled over the description, maybe you could use that as a workaround. It also works if you go back and add custom titles, it will then sync the description over as well (or at least that worked for the few I did in recent activities.)
Try setting a custom title in Strava
W5dwd,
I have tried that and it does not come across for me. The only reliable workflow I have been able to acheive is if I make the title changes and description in intervals then it transfers to Strava perfectly and they match/update as long as it goes from intervals to Strava. I cannot get it to flow in any reliable way from Strava to Intervals. I wish there was a way to sync all the comments and titles so that they match. And fyi the private comments never sync as intentionally desinged by intervals.

Cross posting similar thread. I have the same problem.
David had this to say about the issue.
Thanks.
Strava does not notify Intervals.icu when comments are edited so that could be part of the problem, especially if you are using another tool to make edits. Intervals.icu does not currently store private comments.
Here another post from David
So that again points to making all your changes in intervals then it feeds back properly to Strava and everything except private comments are mirrored properly. This is the only way I can reliably get it to match up.
The minor problem I have is I use activity fix to keep track of my string which creates an automated comment in the Strava description, which gets deleted if I make changes in intervals and donât recreate that automated string statement. So the take away is if you create a comment on Strava then later make changes in intervals it will overwrite the Strava verbiage. It does not sync the two but overwrites it.
Same behavior for the title with one minor exception if you hit the âlook for new activitiesâ button upper right corner of activities page any changes to the title you made in Strava overwrite the intervals title, but comments are uneffected. Cheers
Makes sense, and yes was talking about the âStrava descriptionâ not the Strava private note. That Strava description comes across as a âintervals.icu Descriptionâ found under intervals.icu notes.
For me Strava activities are set to private by default and are still automatically imported into intervals.icu while they are private. So that first import would not have the description since it was not set yet. I then manually edit Strava activities and mark visibility âfollowersâ (I rarely set to public).
I rarely added descriptions and almost never edited titles. I was sort of surprised to see some of my descriptions started showing up in intervals.icu and thatâs when I noticed descriptions only came over when there was also an edited title.
I just went back through and looked at my last year of history and that pattern holds 100% true. All the entities missing descriptions in intervals.icu had default Strava titles (or more specifically they had titles that were not manually edited/modified by me but may have come in via Garmin/MyWoosh, or the recording device).
I went back and edited the titles in Strava and then a browser refreshed in intervals.icu and saw it pulled in both the updated Strava title and the old description that was missing.
But in may case it appears if I only (manually, not automated as maybe you are) edit the description in Strava it does not come over, but as soon as I manually change/modify the title (via Strava app, not automated via an API) it does.
It may be a limitation with Strava only notifying of manual (not API) title changes but not doing the same for description changes.
I will try and pay more attention to my workflow and if that behavior is consistent.
Intersting distinction. I checked and mine is set to followers. Wonder if the change from private to followers is causing the discription to come across to intervals?
It is possible, but in my case if I had only edited the description and not title, flipping to followers would not update the description in intervals.icu.
Only when I edited the title (which sometimes would be at the same time as flipping the visibility, but also worked in previous activities that I had already flipped the visibility manually).
There is some behavior that appears unpredictable for sure. I have some athletes that the description comes through and others that donât but it isnât consistent even in one athlete. Although I have no way of knowing their workflow so could be predictable if I knew what they did.
I do know that editing the title for me does not flow from Strava to Intervals. This was a behavior change and may have been correlated to when I started using activity fix. I also noticed that the option to âresync activityâ is no longer there under âactionsâ while in the activity screen. It is not the same as "reprocess file"but it is in that same menu list. I used to be able to use that to pull title or description changes from Strava to Intervals. I am unsure if that was a feature that was removed or if some other behavior causes it to appear or not appear but so have been unable to see it lately.
I donât know all the details (not using Strava) but behaviour is depending on
- the options checked in the Strava connection settings. Something âkeep Strava title in syncâ
- whether it is an activity with/without paired workout. If I remember correctly, at import the Intervals title takes the workout name, but the name changes when re-analysing???
Iâll try to dig up one or more posts with more details.
For reference, here is how I have my setup @Doug_Pape
Also, I never record with strava, I record with Garmin when then goes to both strava and intervals.icu. Intervals sees the same workout come in from both Garmin and Strava and then merge/links them into one intervals.icu activity. Maybe one workflow difference / variable is that some of your athletes are using strava app for recording, where as mine are all not ânativelyâ recorded strava, just posted/imported to strava automatically via stravaâs garmin connection.
It all gets very complicated very quickly doesnât it. So many variables. I also have âupdate Strava name and descriptionâ checked and also use Garmin for outdoor activities and mywhoosh or Zwift for indoor. I didnât even think of what you use to record as I âthoughtâ it all came through Strava. I am learning a lot from thisâŚas always with the interval community.
Itâs one of my favorite things, I like to record with garmin because the head unit can record additional metrics, but I use strava for the social engagement and sharing how my ride went or anything of note. In Intervals.icu when you are in the activities, youâll see click-able links to both the garmin connect and strava activities it imported for that one intervals.icu activity to the right, below the header data but above the graphs, it looks like this:
