I have a question about variance in reporting of my power readings. I initially downloaded all my data from Garmin to Intervals.icu and was surprised to see that my peak power was significantly different
Garmin = 1,126w
Intervals = 676w
I initially figured this was just a transfer anomaly, but I continue to see these discrepancies continuously. I have included data from my last ride to demonstrate.
Garmin = 832w
Xert = 831w
Intervals = 656w
Why such a big difference in both the downloaded power from Garmin and the peak power from my rides?
Probably because ´power spikes´ are detected. Topped of power chart with red lines?
Set FTP correctly and increase spike detection to 100%.
Ok I think I understand that but what about the original data downloaded from Garmin? Is that the same issue? I figured there couldn’t be “power spikes” in existing data.
On second thoughts I do not understand…sorry. Where do I find “spike detection”?
Settings - Ride tab - Power settings
Make sure that your FTP is not too underestimated and raise the Power Spikes value. If your Power meter has no spikes, you can set it way up, even 999%.
The way it works is explained when you click on the pencil icon:
Got it. Thank you so much for the help. Appreciate it!
I am having the same issue, why does it do that? What is the purpose of it?
Some Power meters produce spikes/artefacts. This option allows to filter them out.
Ok thanks, I have the Quarq power meter which I believe is as accurate as they come. Do I set it at 999?
