I have been training for Fondo’s for more than year now. My current plan is 30 min of Yoga M,W,F. An hour of weight training Sun, Tues, Thur. A 3 hour club ride Sat. 90 min indoor smart trainer on Wed I’m not sure if this should be a zone 2 or HIIT, looking for input on that or other suggestions. I’m a 62m working 50 hr a week.
I’m no expert but I guess it depends on the intensity of your group ride. If the ride is mostly Z2-Z3, I would do a HIIT session on the smart trainer Wed session. If the ride has some punch, I’d go with a sweetspot ride. I wouldn’t suggest Z2 riding with such a low volume.
My group rides are high intensity as I try to keep up with guys half my age.
In this case I’d go for some Z3 or sweet spot long intervals.
