I've plateaued ... One off coach review?

Hi All

My fitness (Vo2 now falling) seems to have plateaued with some semi stuctured training. Are there any coaches I can pay to review my training history to provide suggestions?

Sorry I can’t afford a coach year round.

Thanks

My opinion:

As an example, for me, after 8 weeks of hard training, I will plateu until my body absorbs the training. The time that takes can vary. For me sometimes if I do 6 really hard weeks and 2 rest weeks in there, I will still need a few weeks to kind of reset and be ready to train more.

That’s just me and my personal mental.

You would be surprised how much of your ability to go hard is in your head.

Again, just my personal experience. I wouldnt make changes unless you let yourself fully reset and then reasses, because without a reset, your gains can be masked.

I’ve done two consultations with Empirical Cycling and thought the advice I got was worthwhile. I also paid for a file review ahead of the first consultation.

This guy also does consultations. I haven’t worked with him personally, but know that he’s good and knows his stuff.

can you share your experience with Koolie Moore? review INtervals files? entire season etc,?

Thanks I managed to find someone locally, I’ll keep you posted. Thanks

I had two consultations with them, the first was with Fabiano Araujo and the second was with Kolie. Fabiano was the one that did the file review. They use WKO5 for analysis, so I just added him as a coach on Training Peaks (free account only) and he was able to download my entire history from there. We talked about strengths and weaknesses and what I could focus on to become a better racer. They have a bunch of custom charts in WKO to look at different things that might not be obvious from a PD curve.

The second consultation with Kolie was about a year later, to review what I had done and what I should continue to work on.

I’ll give you two examples of the takeaways from my consultations. One was that I had trouble for example going over threshold for 15-30 seconds when the grade kicks up during a long climb (I do endurance MTB racing) so he suggested I do 20+ minutes of 15 seconds / 15 seconds off to train that ability. That something I was able to implement successfully. If you listen to their podcast, you’d probably not be surprised to hear that he told me I’m doing my endurance rides too hard, and suggested doing them at 160 watts (~320w FTP). That’s something I have NOT been able to bring myself to do.

Good luck if you have a consult. I thought about hiring them to coach me, but I know I’m stubborn and won’t be doing my endurance rides at 160 watts, so I’ll stick with the consultations.

Funnily enough I got very similar advice from Kolie! I really enjoyed the consultation, and I had some excellent performances after implementing the (extremely not fun) 15x15s.

I’m the flip size of you on the Z2 stuff, I asked him to confirm I wasn’t going too easy! Do it, this is the easiest big win there is in cycling!
