I wonder if my threashold setting is too low. Is it feasible to run for 40 minutes at 108 % intensity? I know 100 is supposed to be the maximum you can do for 1 hour.
The load calculation seems very good:
Garmin reported a new threshold pace at 4:16 min/km.
Don’t mistake Intensity for Load. Training Load (TSS) of 100 for an hour is 100% intensity. But a four hour session at less than 100 TSS/hour could give a 99% Intensity. If you click on ‘Intensity’ when viewing an activity you’ll read “…For activities without power intensity is derived from the training load and duration.”
Since this was a run without power, intensity took into account effort over time.
Training load can be determined by pace and/or HR.
IMHO, unless you’re always running on flat ground and with no wind then HR is a better determinant of training load. It indicates what is happening in the body as a result of the outside environment—terrain, temp, wind—and takes into account internal factors, i.e. chronic and acute fatigue, hydration, fuelling, temp, sickness, mental status, etc. Your session avgHR lands in range of the estimated duration that includes the duration of your run.
Yes, except there is a linear relationship with HR and pace, assuming you reach steady state. But HR can vary from day to day and depend on things like coffee intake, moon phase and what not…
No.
I concur that your running pace threshold is set too low. Look in the ‘Pace’ section from the main menu. There are calculations using historical data over different training time frames. The Garmin estimate looks reasonable for a 40min 10k effort.
