How better to train the base?

With power or heart rate measurement?
When I train HR in the Z2, my power is 80% FTP rather than 75% FTP.
Are there any benefits to training your power base?

Many ways to skin a cat. Bare in mind that HR is subject to a lot more variables than power - fatigue, temperature, stress, etc.

For my long runs, I tend to set a HR cap - say 150bpm, and I don’t let my HR get above this. I find this really effective for minimising fatique but maximising run length. It means sometimes I have to walk up hills.

On the bike, I tend to go by a combination of power and feel. If 80% of FTP is an all day pace for you, without any aerobic decoupling, then you are training your base. You may already have a very good aerobic pace to be able to sustain this power, or your FTP could be set too low.
