Hello,

Maybe a bit late here, @Cyco_Path (funny username, btw), but what I would recommend first and foremost is to ride, and ride more. If you’re just starting with cycling, increasing the volume tends to be the best first step as it will allow you to see not only if you enjoy it, but quickly learn a lot of the basics just by yourself.
From there, I’d ask you what “getting better” means to you and whether you already have any goals in mind. Any training should be anchored on some clarity around those in order to be effective.
How’s the cycling journey been so far since you posted?
Hello Paulo,
Thank you for replying to me I really appreciate it. Since this post I have been doing well, I raised my ftp!!! which was one of my goals when I started cycling. Most of my cycling has been indoors but I have been following a structured plan and it has been really beneficial. I am learning as I go and I guess I posted because I wanted to see if I was missing anything. I think as I meet goals “getting better” changes what it means to me. I am really grateful for your response and advice and hope I can ask you more questions in the future.
Following a structured plan is a good place to start. Learn how your body reacts to the different types of workouts and different levels of intensity. Work out how much time you have available for cycling and recovery.
There is so much good educational material out there these days. Here is one that talks about starting out in cycling training in a pretty sensible way. It sets out a sound principle:
Frequency first, then duration, then intensity.
Ignore the title of the video and the headline, I have cued the video to the start point of the relevant section.
Thank you!
