Hammerhead Karoo now syncs with Intervals.icu

Time for an object factory

It’s funny how I bought a Karoo for use as a cycling computer precisely due to the Suunto collaboration but if I do a Mountain Bike activity on my Suunto watch, it logs perfectly correctly with sub type and everything. Whereas all things considered the same activity from the Karoo 2 is lacking, despite it knowing the same due to profiles.

It’s a bit of lack of detail from Hammerhead I think and makes me glad I didn’t stump up the money for a Karoo 3.

Hey @david !
Thank you for your work!
One tiny question about this integration:
Maybe I’m too impatient but how long does it take to see my intervals-workouts at my Karoo? Or does Hammerhead need full permissions?
I ticked off reading and updating activities since I just need my planned workouts to appear on my Karoo magically. I just allowed to read my calendar.
Best regards

Unfortunately I don’t know. Hammerhead did the work for this, not me.

Thank you very much for this. Have now uninstalled Strava from my mobile phone! :man_dancing:

Ok, I see. I try to work it out with them.
Thank’s for your response anyway!

Something I noticed with the new Karoo integration is that if you’re also syncing with Strava, the activity calories (kcal) are no longer populated.

So it seems that neither the Strava kcal nor the Hammerhead kcal get pulled into intervals.

I can confirm this is true for me as well. I sync from Hammerhead, Strava and Suunto (although it appears that the HH sync has superceded the Suunto data - it is no longer shown as a data source for my activities).

Both Strava and the HH web pages show (slightly different) calories for my activities but neither value appears on Intervals. I can see this on my latest activity from this morning, while activities fed solely from Strava do have kcal data.
@david - I am tagging you since you may miss this issue otherwise. I can post it as a bug report if you would prefer.

kCal may be calculated by Strava and sent here.
Pleae check on the original FIT file if there is such data there. Could be HH & Suunto calc it on the web and not on watch

I have checked the file from my Karoo and see the kcal field defined at the top of the file but do not see any values in the session section at the bottom, which implies that is calculated on the receiving sites by both HH and Strava.
There is a note on the kcal field here on my latest activity that says:

That seems to imply that Strava will be the preferred source.

You have your answer…
Sync via Strava is not preferred…

Is there a way to set the order/preference of sources? That activity shows both Hammerhead and Strava as origins, which has been a supported configuration. I want the activity name from Strava (and data like this if not available from Hammerhead).

only SOME data (name and desc) from Strava is kept (per pref based on /SETTINGS).

if you have Strava + others, others is always the preferred.

Intervals.icu will pull the total_calories field from the session message of fit files. I had a look at a couple of yours from Hammerhead and that isn’t present. Also fitfileviewer.com complained about various problems with the file, not sure what’s up with that.

I am not sure where Strava is getting the data from. Maybe it is calculating it from the power data?

Thanks David - I’ll do some checking with Hammerhead since I didn’t see it in the FIT file either. They display total calories on their web portal as well so it may be that they are calculating it from the power data. RE: the FIT file, I received an error message from Fitfileviewer too but FIT file viewer – RUNALYZE handled it without issues.

Hammerhead via Suunto has not contained this data for a while. I posted this thread about it too Automatic type as virtual if missing GPS track & calories from power

Did you get this to work? I’m having the same issue - have connected the accounts but I’m not seeing my workouts populating onto my Karoo or Hammerhead dashboard

No, I’m sorry.
(but contrary to what I said, I never contacted Hammerhead about it)

Hi there,

I just noticed that when I upload an MTB ride from the Karoo to Intervals, the workout type is set to Ride instead of MTB. Am I missing something?

I’d like to have all MTB rides automatically associated with the correct bike gear to properly track gear usage. Right now, I have to manually change the gear association for each mountain bike ride.

Thanks,

Marco

First. Check if the original for file says mtb for the sport type.

In not sure if mtb is a sport type or a sub sport type. If its.a sub sport. Then the fit file needs to have it written in.

You are correct, the original .fit file does not proivide the sub_sport. I raised the issue with hammerhead.
Thanks
