For Triathletes, Same HIIT training for both bike + run?

Hello !

I had this question for a long time, but I could not find any answer to it online, and I don’t know anyone that can answer it :
In Triathlon, should my 2 HIIT training in the week be the same for both cycling and running ?
like for example, if I’m training VO2max for cycling, should I do the same for running to maximize gain or should I train my threshold for example as if it doesn’t matter (just as I always did before)

Is it the same during race specific workout for only running or cycling events ?
I tend to avoid HIIT training for the sport that isn’t in the race and replace it with the other one as it sounds like the best strategy.

Thank you for any answer, and sorry if my English is a bit weird.

Your English is great!

I have seen and followed triathlon plans that mix intensity types and ones that are more block periodized. This past year I planned my own training and mostly had bike and run workouts train the same intensity type (i.e., 1 threshold run and 1 threshold bike, or 1 sprint run and 1 sprint bike). I planned my training this way mostly because it was easier mentally prepare for the upcoming work.

Consistency is key to all training. Plan and execute something you can be consistent with. It’s better to complete an okay plan than to fail a perfect plan (I do not believe there is a perfect plan).
