Downgrading FTP values

If I complete Full Frontal in Wahoo Systm, the FTP value achieved there is meaningful and does not actually need to be corrected downwards. I think it’s a shame that Intervals corrects this value downwards anyway.

You set your own FTP in Intervals on the Settings page

The eFTP (modelled value) degrades daily if you don’t do a single hard effort, greater than what shows in your settings. It’s not the same as the FTP value is /settings.

As I am not a native English speaker, I may have expressed myself in a misleading way. Normally, the FTP value is determined by taking a corresponding average value over a period of 20 minutes and then multiplying this value by 95% in order to set the value closer to a realistic threshold that can be driven over a longer period of time. The Full Frontal Test from Wahoo already takes this into account by running the test over a total duration of one hour and determining the NM power and MAP of 5 minutes before the 20-minute part of the test for determining the FTP value. Nevertheless, the value is apparently corrected downwards in this test by intervals (see screenshot)

Every training platform has its own way to estimate FTP from some sort of maximal effort done.
One will better suit some athletes, another will better suit other athletes.
If you want to know which is better for you, there’s only one way to find out and that is to do a ‘full hour of power’. You may be disappointed when trying to do that…
There’s apparently 20 minutes at 217W. 95% of that is 206W. Intervals judges 207W based on its own system (which is a huge set of PDC curves from FastFitnessTips).
What did Wahoo come up with?
Differences of 5 - 10 W are negligible and will not impact your training. FTP is a performance metric that slightly changes from day to day, up or down.
