I though i would share my thoughts on the whole garmin vs coros topic.
Recovery metrics
- Garmin has a lot more “Derived” metrics than what the Coros has. What i am talking about here is the training readiness metric, sleep score, recovery time, body battery, stress
- Coros has more direct sleep hr tracking, sleep stages, sleep length and not a number but like a feedback “Great-Poor” sleep quality feedback.
Garmin have a recovery time metric, while coros has a recovery percentage. However i couldnt really make much sense of the recovery metric on the coros. I dont know why but i could feel overtrained on 100% recovery.
Garmin wins here.
Training
Coros just wins this one. Their effort pace metric is superiour compared to things like running power on the garmin. The fact that you can even make a workout based of effort pace, grade adjusted pace is actually insane. Making a workout is also much easier on the coros than on the garmin. However the Coros dosen’t sync well with intervals.icu. Workouts are put into the training library instead of actually assigned to the calendar.
Furthermore the setup of activity data fields can be done on the app with coros instead of on the watch with garmin. The app is also overall more intuitive than the Garmin. Coros “activity” page is actually insanely good, and their training hub looks very professional.
Garmin wins when it comes to customisation though, with the whole store for connect iq data fields and such.
Garmin has much more features like event planning, pace-pro, running stanima, running dynamics, endurance score. However garmin falls behind on the genious coros app, with the workout planner and effort pace.
Form metrics
Overall i actually find garmin gives more insight into showing how my form is improving or declining. Like endurance score, vo2max, training status etc. It feels more responsive and adaptive to my training than the coros. Yes coros does show in th pace, th hr, vo2max. But garmin experience here is more smooth. You can even see your a finish time prediction change over time for a specific event based on a route. It even gives you suggestions towards your events.
Overall
I mean day to day, i would choose the garmin. But i feel like garmin has to do more work on their app.
