Yes thats correct. The fit file is definitely the one to use.
I’ve already emailed them.
I decided to start to use dropbox and it’s working great.
I download all my fit files to a specific folder and intervals.icu just import them. Sweet!
I have one small request that would make importing past exercises so much easier: when I import a fit file from Concept2 logbook, intervals.icu imports it as a “Workout” instead of “Rowing”.
Would it be simple to change this for all fit files imported from Concept2?
Thanks once again.
Cool. I made an update and those files will now be correctly identified as “Rowing”. I noticed that you have rowing set to 0% fitness and fatigue in /settings:
That will cause the training load from the HR data to be 0.
You can use AK Concept’s datafield / GIQ on Garmin watches, and get power, distance, cadence, etc. over. However, I see intervals.icu recognize them as “strength” workouts rather than rowing. We have done it this way for a few reasons:
- Most of our athletes have a Garmin, and to avoid more tools required
- The Garmin can read power data, etc. directly from the C2 machines over ANT+. You connect it with the C2’s ANT+ ID.
- You get both interval and REST duration, which is normally not logged, if you have a passive rest between intervals. If rest is not logged, the power curve also gets inflated.
So I can highly recommend using Garmin IQ datafield from e.g. AK Concept - and not their app. It is not the most polished datafield, and someone can probably easy make a more native looking datafield, but it does the job.
If you send me a link to an Intervals.icu activity for one of those I will have a look at the file. I might be able to recognise it as rowing.
Oh thanks for noticing! How should I set those parameters?
Just rowed and uploaded through Dropbox, sets are now imported as rowing. Perfect!
Cool. You just need to click the line for rowing and then click “Defaults”. Your rowing is cardio so no need to mess with how it is applied to fitness and fatigue.
Glad this tread exists, I have my Concept2 arriving in a few days, was curious if there was a way to import fit files with power. Seems like that’s the case and Dropbox is viable way to get them in I.i. SuperCool!
I am working on generalising the power support in Intervals.icu to running, rowing etc at the moment. Right now you can see the power on the activity but not power curves and so on.
Well, I see power (and cadence) data in intervals.icu from a rowing session after imprinting it via Strava. that’s awesome per se. Thank you David!
Power curves and so on for rowing (and running etc.) coming in the next couple of days. Almost done!
You just need to add a sport for Nordic Ski in /settings, enter an FTP and configure power zones and it will work.
Hi David,
When I upload a rowing session it says in the details “Copy your FTP and Power zones for Rowing in settings to enable power analysis”.
Can you guide me on how to enable this?
Thank you!
@MedTechCD thanks. I don’t know much about FTP measurement but from what I was able to comprehend it has something to do with the constant power that I’m able to sustain in a 1h exercise. So, I followed your instructions and used the average power from a couple of activities in Strava. Hope 123 FTP is a reasonably close number, since I don’t have any other method to measure it… or do I?
I don’t have any experience nor knowledge about rowing training. A quick search turned up this site which might be a good starting point:
I quickly scanned the site and at first sight, FTP is not the way to go for rowing. Looks like rowing training is based on 10sec max power. But don’t take my word for it, I only quickly scanned a couple pages.
There are other intervals users around, using rowing power, that can probably better guide you how to start with this.
Intervals.icu will use the FTP number to derive intensity and hence training load and to spot power spikes. I just carried everything across from cycling and unfortunately I don’t know how applicable that is to rowing. You will probably need to experiment a bit.
I recorded a Concept2 rowing session in two ways: (a) via Garmin watch as “indoor rowing” activity, which only records heart rate and stroke rate; and (b) via Concept2 ErgData app, which records heart rate, stroke rate, and power. Both upload the sessions to Garmin connect automatically but intervals.icu only seems to get the sessions recorded via Garmin watch (without power).
Is there a way to configure intervals.icu to read the sessions that were uploaded to garmin connect via the concept2 app?
Unfortunately around April 2021 Garmin stopped sending activities from non-Garmin devices to apps like Intervals.icu. I pinged them about it and they said it was a “policy decision”.
Concept2 do have an API but it doesn’t look like it provides fit files: Concept2 Logbook API
You could try get them to support uploading to Dropbox.
Bummer. Thanks for your reply - Eric
