Capturing/logging Indoor Rowing Workouts

So, I took delivery of a Waterrower last week and have used it a couple of times. It’s one of their basic units, so the computer/monitor doesn’t have any connectivity options.

I’m trying to find a good way to log workouts and have them uploaded to Strava/this site. What I’ve tried:

  • Recording w/ Strava. I’d hoped that this would record my HR and I could then add metrics after the fact. The reality was that it treats it like it’s an outdoor workout and tried to embed a GPS track. It tries to use this for calculating distance, which obviously doesn’t work. Metrics are not editable after the fact.

  • Record w/ the Wahoo app. I can disable GPS on this and hoped that I could edit after the fact. Also a nope. The only items editable after the fact were title and workout type. It records 0 for the distance (of course, there’s no way for it to know otherwise) and I can’t update it.

When both of these make it to Strava, there’s no option to manually update anything.

With the Wahoo recorded workout from today, it somehow decided that I’d go 2 meters.

At least the load is calculated from HR modeling, though I don’t know how accurate that is, as a VERY sustainable HR on the bike seems to require a very sizable (and non-sustainable) effort on the rower, but that’s probably a completely different topic.

So, does anyone have any tips, tricks or pointers?

Thanks,
Andy

Intervals.icu should pickup the Strava activity and you can edit the distance in Intervals.icu. It can’t push that change back to Strava but at least the distance in Intervals.icu will be correct.

Right, I’ve updated it over on here, but I was hoping that someone might have gone through this dance before and figured out a good way of logging them correctly before they even get uploaded… My only option (if I really care about it) would be a more advanced computer on the rower.

FYI you can add an accessory to WaterRower that measures more accurately your power/performance and it auto-uploads to Strava and thus Intervals. It’s called SmartRow, it replaces the default pulley, and connects to your mobile device, gamechanger for my waterrower experience tbh.

Interesting. I will take a look. Thanks.
