Any thoughts to impementing a Goals page? Obviously I have the Strava page, but I just canceled my paid subscription to Strava. I’d rather give my money here. But I will miss having the Goals page and would love to see one here. Especially if it could be better than Strava’s. I’d like to be able to enter weekly, monthly and yearly goals for riding and running. I’m sure others would like to have goals for other activities, but those are the two most important to me.
Curious why you cancelled your Strava account? Other than the subscription fee were there other reasons?
Yeah I got that, but I was hoping for monthly and yearly goals, too.
Living mostly on my SS I’d rather spend my money here than on Strava. I paid for the annual sub here, so it seemed kind of pointless to pay for both.
Strava’s annual goal and projection calculation is quite basic. It takes your annual goal, divides by the number of days in the year (accounting for a leap year) and assumes that it is the distance you’ll ride every day. Then it multiplies that number by the number of elapsed days in the year to determine what your distance should be today to meet your goal. It compares that against your actual distance on the day to show your progress vs. your goal. Nothing more.
Before I cancelled my Strava paid subscription, I made an Excel spreadsheet that replicates their annual distance goal projection including a the graph. Unfortunately, (very sensible) file type restrictions prevent me from uploading it here to share.
Actually, Strava’s annual goal is set by the user. I set myself a goal of 5000 km this coming year. The only thing Strava does is tells you whether you’re ahead or behind your goal. Anyway, I’d love to see something like that here. I know we already the weekly targets, but it would be nice to see monthly and yearly, maybe on a Goals page.
Correct. The user sets goals such as annual distance. I was referring to their method of calculating whether the user is ahead or behind the goal that they set. The underlying calculation is very simple.
