@Maarten_Aerts Is there a way to manully change the estimated calories per workout? E.g. 1h weightlifting is calculated 354kcal but doing it I land more around the 150-200 kcal ![]()
You cannot manually override yet (this is on my backlog), but there are different calculation methods depending on the available information. Setting RPE for example, will influence the estimate, so will average heartrate.
There is a prioritization system behind this. The highest priority always goes to externally delivered data. If not available, it will search for a maximum-precision calculation method with the data available. For now, a workaround is to play with the data ![]()
Does Avitu currently take the time of training into account to fuel around the workout instead continuously through the day?
I am working on this at the moment
I hope to make some good progress on this during this weekend.
Dag Maarten,
gr,
Bart

Database could be larger ā The food database could be expanded so more items are recognized automatically.
-
Predicted weekly weight loss ā If your goal is weight loss, it would be helpful to see the predicted weekly decrease so you can adjust your plan or target if needed.
Questions
-
Daily vs. overnight calorie logic ā Does the app calculate calories strictly per day, or also across days?
Example: Saturday is a rest day (lower kcal), but Sunday morning includes a long stochastic group training (higher carb needs). -
Stepāgoal walking calories ā I often walk 15 minutes just to reach my step goal. Are these calories counted toward the daily deficit? And should they be?
Hi Bart.
On the food database, yes, Iām preparing a quality upgrade
I can indeed add an indicator with a predicted date for target weight, thanks for the suggestion.
Currently, it is day-by-day, but I am working on this right now. I hope to get this feature out by end of this week. It is actually already finished, but I am validating it against about 30 simulations to make sure the formulas work!
I do not synchronize step data. You can cover this activity by either logging an activity for 15m of walking, or by increasing the activity level within the day structure.
@Maarten_Aerts If I have workouts on intervals.icu planned for the day and I did not do them or something different - is there any way the get them out of the kcal calculation without deleting them on intervals.icu?
I actually tried to implement this, and reasoned myself out of it. At this moment, you can delete an activity, but it will return as long as it is planned within icu.
It is not complex to remove an activity only in Avitu, while keeping it in icu, however, there are some scenarios for which I am not sure what the behavior should be:
- You delete an activity in Avitu, but it was a mistake. Should you be able to ārestoreā the activity?
- You delete an activity in Avitu, and later make an update of the activity in icu. Should we re-add it, or keep it deleted?
So, for me it is possible, we just need to cover these questions
I initially assumed that this wasnāt worth it, that most people would just remove the workout in icu.
Hi Maarten,
How went the validation of the overday kcal and macro calculations?
Greetings
Hello Bart. It is taking a bit more time than anticipated⦠I have started a new iteration with a slightly simplified calculation.
Good Luck
I think you are right. The current implementation is the most logical one!
Hi Maarten,
My Avitu trial ends tomorrow. Overall, it provides valuable insight into my macros, and I find it more useful than apps such as FatSecret, MyFitnessPal, or Lifesum because of the link with my training calendar.
On the other side, i still am in doubt whether i will subscribe. Do you have a roadmap you could share outlining the improvements and new features that are planned (f.e featurebase)?
Features such as overnight carbohydrate loading and adjusting carbohydrate recommendations around high-intensity sessions would be particularly important. Building nutrition around these demanding workouts is essential for maintaining training quality.
Thanks a lot!
Bart
Hello Bart. I manage my backlog through Github. This is something Iād like to keep private for 2 reasons: (1) protect myself for committing myself to certain features which I might not be able to deliver, and (2) because there are some differentiating ideas in there in comparison with the competition ![]()
I am currently working on 2 things in parallel:
- iOS version of the app
- Fuel-to-complete/train/perform: you will be able to set an intent on activities, which will then shift around meal distributions, incl carb loading. I think this feature matches with what you are looking for.
If I look towards the future, here are some things that I definitely want to do:
- Further improve target calculations, on several factors
- Recipes
- Integrations with other platforms, incl TrainingPeaks, Garmin, JOIN, Whoop,ā¦
- Give users the possibility to completely fine-tune the calculation engine
- Increase the quality of the foods database
However, I cannot say in which order, or by when. Iāll keep you updated ![]()
@Maarten_Aerts your Roadmap sounds nice. Thank you ![]()
One feature request. Could you extend the weekview to see like 9 days or even 14 days? This would make meal planning, shopping and prepping for the week a lot easier. I do my planning on Thursdays or Fridays and currently I“m not able to see the whole complete next week. Thank you!
Hey Christian. I extended it with a hotfix so you can plan 2 weeks ahead.
Thank you ![]()
