Workout builder

Not yet. I am a bit wary about the extra complexity. Also the Garmin API has a 50 step limit for workouts which people might hit more often.

Curious if we can or are able to add a w/kg option when creating workouts?

Curious if any others would use this?

Eg. -5m 4.5w/kg

Thank you so much for this feature. I am using Garmin. I can use this feature to sync the workout plan to my watch.

But there is one confusion about the FIT field “intensity”. Most of the workout steps are set to 5. But I would like to see warmup, active, rest, etc. From the Garmin developer document File Types | FIT SDK | Garmin Developers , intensity 5 means interval. Would you please help to fix this? Thank you.

I do have that on the todo list. Still trying to figure out how to work intensity into the workout language.

Just signed up for intervals.icu and so far really impressed with the features. For the workout builder, is it possible to have recoveries skipped for the last repeat somehow? e.g.

4x

  • Work set 5m Z3
  • Recover 1m Z1

Cooldown

  • Cool down 10m Z1

The last “Recover 1m” here is redundant since it is covered by the cooldown step. Of course sometimes it’s possible to adjust the time of the cooldown step to account for this, or to swap the order in the repeat and adjust the timing of a preceding step, but the zones don’t necessarily always match.

Tx. I could do that but it would cause some issues. The Garmin API has a limit of 50 steps per workout. To do this I would need to unroll the last repeat to leave out the last step in the loop. That might push some peoples workouts over the limit. Also its almost a bit late to make changes like that now, lots of people would suddenly get slightly different workouts.

Ah yeah, I don’t think it makes sense to change the existing behavior, I was thinking there might be some syntax like Recover 5m Z2 skip on last or something to indicate it should be skipped. You could consider it a feature request but I realize there’s 600 replies here over 2 years and I’m the first one to ask for it, so probably not something that a lot of people need.

yeah… it’s the “de facto” way to do it since Garmin anyways. So people like me has been “living with it” and adjusting.

Doing things like manually skipping the last interval on the head unit or the workout app.

Hello!

I have created a workout for a FTP test P8 and in the interval of 8m in Z6 I had a problem after 5min+/- my smart trainer got harder and it was very difficult for me to finish the interval, this was the workout:

my result in this interval was the following with the red line in the moment that the trainer changed the hardness:

I have researching about that and after exporting the workout to an .erg file I have seen the following data:

I think there is a power jump from 368w to 2557w that produced the hardness in my trainer.

I don’t know if there is a way to check the workout after creating to avoid this issue.

what are you trying to do? YOu have multiples of Z1 there…
Quite possibly the builder is confused…

Screenshot 2023-04-14 at 5.23.06 PM

when I try copying your workout, eg: the 30s Z1 5m Ramp Z5 actually becomes 30s ramp Z5

Your issue is Z7. I look at my own settings, Z7 is marked as 151%+ (no upper limit)

Putting it as say 200% would resolve your issue…

I would like to add a text message to know the target of the current interval in my garmin, yes, it was wrong, maybe copy/paste error.

Yes, maybe I can remove the Z7, 5secs is not very significant…

Thanks for your reply!!

you can use zo or zone for your popup informations, so you don’t use the same phrases for text and control.

Hi everyone, just a quick message to thank David for his work. I am starting with training analysis, and trying to implement a way of training working out for me. The learning process is worth it, I am not sure if my performances are improving but I enjoy it so far!

Cheers,
Alex

@david Great guide! However, the last example does not work:

- 60 HR Z2

should be

- 60m HR Z2

Bonjour , pouvez vous m’indiquez la procedure comment ajouter w’ball sur une ligne de prog merci par avance

Are you referring to seeing the W’ line that shows on your activity charts?

Thank you for great workout builder!
Just some remarks:

  1. I think the number rounding is not correct eg 83% of my FTP 208 is 172.64 and it becomes 172 while it should be rounded to 173, 96% of 208 is 199.68 and it becomes 199 instead of 200 etc.

  2. The following text in workout builder is visible in imported workout in Coros in the Description section. Should it be there? It makes the workout entry in the calendar very big…

  • 20m00s 80-83%
  • 10m00s 94-96%
  • 19m00s 80-83%
  • 10m00s 80-83%
  • 10m00s 94-96%
  • 21m00s 80-83%
  • 10m00s 60-80%

I decided to round down early on and can’t change that now. Too many people would get slightly different workouts. It could push power up a zone etc…

If you add a paragraph before the workout steps then this should be used as the description for the workout instead of the whole text:

First paragraph for the description.

- 60m Z2

Thank you for reply, I believe it would be better to correct the wrong rounding now instead of living it wrong, so all past and future users will always have it wrong.
For some future users it is a reason not to use intervals.icu…
199.9 can’t bercome 199…
This error should stop…

When did 1W became that important? It is less then the precision of your power meter. And the difference riding with a clean or dirty chain, shaven or not shaven legs, low or high socks etc, all make differences of multiple Watts.
