What does strava add that garmin connect lacks?

I got a 4iii power meter for Xmas for my diverge and discovered interval.icu. I’m loving it so far, reminds me of the desktop version of sports tracks before it went to the .mobi nonsense.

I have it integrated with strava but use a garmin watch and garmin connect. Strava is continually creeping up on price. If I ditch it does interval.ICU lose any real useful functionality? Right now strava has me hanging around for their map a route functionality

Thanks
Nate

AFAICT, the Strava Free Tier does most of what you need.

  1. Segments - these are passed to Intervals.icu
  2. Strava → Intervals.icu sync (Changes in Name in Strava gets propagated here. But not Garmin Connect)

If you’re on Strava for things beyond that (like the map route - I personally just use plotaroute when I need to, once in a blue moon)

plotaroute

Don’t delete your Strava account, otherwise Intervals is obliged to delete your historical data. The free Strava account is sufficient to get data into Intervals.

Bear in mind that some functionality is lost when syncing through Strava. The GC → Intervals route is the better option, with additional info like segments (as mentioned by @app4g above) is supplementary to the GC sync.

Neco bump: I was just playing with plotaroute. I really like it and 27/year isn’t that bad.

it depends on what you need it for.
