Weather forecast now on shared races and events

Upload courses to shared events to see the weather forecast along the route. This screenshot is part of the Paris Roubaix Challenge 170km happening on Saturday. Nice tailwind to start, then a stiff cross-wind and wet cobbles!

Mouse over the profile to see how the forecast changes as the event progresses. Use the options drop down to configure the map.

You can upload multiple courses for an event, each gets its own forecast data. The forecast starts at the start time of the course and comes from open-meteo.com, available from between 7 and 14 days before the event.

Search for events and races using the search button in the “Add Calendar Entry” dialog:

Once you have added a race or event to your calendar the details are displayed in the view dialog:

This feature will soon be on our public site (Events & Races | Intervals.icu).

Thanks. This will be perfect for the weather on the etape in July.

Can you do this for your own rides that you plan that aren’t public races?

Not at the moment. But that could be a nice addition to the routes feature.

yes please, would love this.

This is fantastic, thanks @david for the work.

I’m just sharing it with a few runners from my club who are running the Boston Marathon next week. Only feedback I’m getting from them (besides this is great) is that it would be great to have it available with less clicks (they are not so familiar with intervals.icu and not that tech savvy).

Instead of open event → shared → click on map icon, it would be great if it was open event → click on map icon. I think they are not finding the part where they go to “shared” very intuitive.

But if you scroll down, you can click on the map icon - no need to click on shared

I saw that, it is working now, I think it was bugging for me yesterday, but today on my next try it worked perfectly fine. Thank you.

@david: why can’t we use it on our non-shared upcoming workouts? It would be especially useful for planning bicycle workouts, for multiple reasons:

  1. For schedule planning, for example: when I plan a, say, 150km long group-training for my endurance team, I want to understand how much time will the tour take.Given target pedaling intensity of the workout, I wish to understand what speeds can I expect from the group, therefore how much time the tour will need according to the wind prognosis?
  2. it is crucial for choosing a suitable route for a workout, or for a groupride. For example, I would like to have the outbound leg of the workout into the headwind and the inbound leg with tailwind.
  3. etc.
I will also make a feature request on it

We will likely add it for routes soon.
