Request to create a warning before disconnecting Strava that you will lose RPE, Notes data and cleaned up intervals! Why wasn’t this done already!?! Did I miss something? I just lost a years worth of RPE and Notes data!
Unless this was added now, there is a warning.
F**K I saw that. Maybe a bigger font specifically saying that you will lose RPE and notes.
Is there a way to decouple all data from outside services and have it belong to intervals.icu. If I upload a fit file does it belong to intervals?
I don’t understand why all my activity data belonged to Strava. Why did the whole activity have to be deleted?
Been there. Done that. Sometimes the fingers are faster than the brain. Hence. No amount of notice w red fonts or big fonts will help as much as one would think.
You can take it up w Strava on why your data is theirs.
P
Nope. I think david has stated that much perhaps in not so many words but your data is your data. But you do agree to have it processed and compared as a population
Isn’t there a distinction between the fit file and all the other data?
that could be a case of how the system was designed. Where by the RPE/NOTES are embedded and are only associated w/ a Strava ID. Once the Strava ID is Gone, the linkage is gone as well. (i’m guessing you didn’t have dual uploads like Garmin + Strava. For this case MAYBE the link isn’t broken cos there are multiple activity ID associated with that data)
Strava may argue that the ID is also theirs :-p
If you did the Download ALL Data option from Strava and re-upload it, this ID COULD be the one used to replace all data from strava with the newly uploaded ORIGINAL FIT file data and evetything stays put.
which is why i continually see the message to NOT Disconnect Strava w/o downloading and re-uploading the entire historical data. Either that or just “do not dowload activities”
I would imagine that having to update / reindex / re-analyse a few hundred million rows / tera/petabytes of data in the DB isn’t a fun thing to do.
I would like to add on to what I said above w/ regards to “your data is your data”
IMHO, Strava is a big company and generating not so little revenue (despite so many “real” athletes making noise about their data being Strava’s data)
I would also argue that they got so big because they opened up all their data/platform (initially). All Uploads were OPEN and not private. This enabled ppl to see other’s data (hello privacy!) and then they grew cos you can see where others run/ride etc and use that to search for new routes. Then you can use Flyby which was really interesting, that is until it was changed to PRIVATE by default.
Then you have the classic secret military base being discovered due to some users uploading their data to strava for ALL to see. Whoopies…
Then you also have the case of the presidents getting tracked via strava
Again, users data being OPEN by default.
Now, we have intervals.icu, it’s growing, not as fast but still. Intervals.icu data is closed by default. You can’t see anyone else’s data unless you’re a follower (social aspect - this was great when I was younger lolx). But what you CAN See are those population data like the Power Ranking / Cat ranking etc.
This is also an interesting story about when you get BIG, you really need to be extra careful.
I think, Strava is just being more careful of where/what they step.
The data in Strava is yours, and it’s still there. The API service belongs to Strava and one of the T&Cs state that any application (Intervals.icu) utilising the API service are bound to their conditions, which includes deleting data if the API connection is terminated. It’s not an unfair business practice, considering that it’s free for the user, and only requires a subscription for the developer.
Strava was used as a middle man on Intervals, because it supported so many devices.
I meant all the data not associated with the fit file. None of the RPE data and notes got saved to Strava. Perhaps analysis both automatic and manual based on the data could be argued to be linked to them. Anyhow, I’m getting over it. Working on a way to back all the data up (fit file and single value data) through the api then decouple Strava. I have a lot of Zwift rides which I can’t get to upload past workouts - the reseason I even used Strava at all in the first place. Garmin stuff uploads, Unfortunately I piped everything through Strava because linking Garmin and Strava was causing me problems at one point. Maybe I’ll just start recording indoor rides to my head unit anyway - but then milage and quasi-elevation become a problem. At least this will create consistency in the initial power data acquisition.
doesn’t Zwift rides go to Garmin? If you don’t dual record, there won’t be any Zwift Rides fromyour garmin.
you could get your historical zwift rides from Garmin
Anyhow, future workouts will not have an issue as you can link Zwift directly to intervals.icu
Zwift ride history saves to the activities sub-folder on the device used. Not sure about iOS and tvOS
Otherwise it’s also available on the activity feed (just me) on Zwift.com.

Download FIT file
Yeah, but you have to download one at a time. Furthermore Zwift rides are missing a lot of data from my power meters.
- At least you have the option to download.
- Strava won’t have any extra information that Zwift doesn’t have, from the auto-synced file.
