Very high noise on pace since switching to workoutdoors

I switched to using Workoutdoors (Apple Watch app) to log my trainings. Since I have been using that, the pace in intervals has like a very high noise on it:

1 minute zoomed in:

the weird thing is that I don’t have this effect in the workoutdoors app, or even in strava:

so it looks like it goes wrong somewhere in the import from strava. Any clue?

i just looked at my strava. Seems like Strava is not showing every second data. Perhaps this is smoothing things out?

I don’t think it is related to smoothing, Strave does show every 2-3 seconds and is relatively constant. The noise shown on intervals seems to be a periodic wave of ~10 seconds

I think you’re right. This data in intervals is coming from Strava correct?
Any chance you can get the original fit file and upload that for “comparison”?

yes, the data is coming from strava. I can’t upload the fit file here it seems.

I just tried uploading the fit file directly into intervals, then the pace looks similar to what I get in strava, so the weird periodic noise is not there.

Interesting…
So it’s possible that strava did something to the data prior to sending it to intervals?

One more thing which you can test is you want.
Delete the Strava workout & the manually uploaded one from intervals (which I presume was sent from workoutdoors → Strava) then manually upload the FIT file (the one you uploaded to intervals and looks good) and then let strava forward the new file to intervals. See if the issue persists.

If it does, then I guess we can say it’s strava. If it’s not then its something else.

I just tried to do what you said. I deleted the activity both on strava and intervals and then reuploaded to strava via the .fit.

The problem is that intervals doesn’t load the activity now, even after I force “load old activities”. I’ll try again in my next workout I guess.

I wonder why…

can you check “show DELETED” workouts. seems kinda strange Strava is not sending / intervals is not pulling the new workout data. It usually happens quickly.

I use Workoutdoors but then use HealthFit on my phone to export it to intervals and also Strava. That seems perfect and I think it’s the best way to get WorkOutdoors files out. I also send from Healthfit to Dropbox so I have the fit file available.

Maybe the things mentioned in #2 from this FAQ are influencing the speed graph?
