Hi,
Would it be possible for ICU to provide the option to set heart rate zones by using maximum heart rate instead of just by threshold HR?
Thank you.
Hi,
Would it be possible for ICU to provide the option to set heart rate zones by using maximum heart rate instead of just by threshold HR?
Thank you.
is putting Threshold HR and Max HR the same value not workable?
Maybe a related question, has something changed here? The heartrate zones in my activity yesterday do not match my heart rate zones in the intervals.icu settings.
interestingly, I went to check and found my Garmin and Intervals setting do not match so I try to match it.
Intervals vs Garmin
Then I tried to re-analyse / reprocess the entire file… doesn’t seem to change… eg: Z1 = 0 - 145 vs 0 - 136 being the new one
so as of now, I am not able to confirm if things has changed as all my data is not correct / in sync anyways
This was previously raised here. An argument against it is that it’s easy enough to fiddle with numbers to get the zones to be as desired, regardless of the base method, i.e. %LTHR, %HRmax, Karvonen, %VO2max. While that’s true, I would love to see more options. Personally, I base all my thinking off HRmax with adjustments for level of athlete then personal variance. I find this far more reliable than any other method. Maybe it’s just how I learned to think about the physiology, since I learned from Seiler who primarily references %HRmax. Another consideration is the programming necessary to add this functionality; something I have zero knowledge about.
If you change zones and want to apply those to an already existing activity, you must first apply the zones to that activity. That’s because every activity is stored with the zone settings valid at the time of import.
On the other hand, I would have thought that a full reprocess also does that…
I would rather have my heart rate zones in I.ICU match my Garmin for cycling and other apps for running, all are setup for me based on max of heart rate.
I am comfortable using this method that’s why I am wondering if ICU can provide this option in the future.

I totally agree. It would be great if the maximum HRT option can be made available in ICU.
Let me try that in a bit and report back.indont like doing this on a phone. (So you can guess my age )
I am sure you are very young at heart
yup… doing update zones now have it w/ the new settings…
interestingly, within the activity view, there’s no option to “update zones” only in List view.
all updated… but they are different…
David mentioned that he uses 5s average for the time in zone calculations, at least for power.
Could imagine, for HR maybe too. And we don’t know how Garmin, TP, Strava or others calculate the time in zone (raw data vs. avg values)
I wonder how much I care about these numbers… (and it being different)
for now, seems like not much :-p
