Using 5min power (or another duration) for workout interval prescription

Hi,

For my VO2max workouts (i.e. 5x5), I like to use a percentage of my 5min power to set the intensities of the workout, instead of a percentage of FTP.

For example, for a 5x5, I would set the intensity as 95% of my 5min power as a guideline.

Is there a way that I can set that up ? Maybe with custom zones ? My apologies if this has already been covered.

Thanks

In the workout editor you can use a percentage of mean max power (MMP) to prescribe intervals using this format for a %:

  • 5m 100% MMP 5

Or this format for a % range:

  • 5m 70-80% MMP 5

The most tiny tweak to your example format, the MMP wants a time unit

  • 5m 100% MMP 5m
  • 20m 100% MMP 1h

Awesome guys, thanks for the tip !

Is there a way to manually set the MMP values for different time durations, or do they have to come from an actual ride/workout ?

As I understand it, MMP values come from your modelled power curve. But it’s possible to manually define a curve on the Power screen, so if you wanted to override some values I guess you could?

Unfortunately that won’t work. The power curve used for MMP workout prescription is the “For Workouts” one which is last 90 days in this case. You can click that to change the number.
