Use Indoor FTP in Workout planning

Hi all!

I’m using intervals.icu to plan all my training sessions, and it looks like it uses my FTP instead of indoor FTP for training sessions. Can I do something to use indoor FTP instead of FTP while creating workouts?
Here is an example:

If you create a Ride and select the “indoor” tick box that might work…

Virtual Ride has no option for “indoor” checkbox. While the “ride” option would.

I do believe that when you select a “Virtual ride” this already defaults to indoor FTP.

I just did a quick test and Virtual Ride did use my indoor FTP. Note that when you are editing or looking at a workout it uses the settings from whatever athlete is selected.

I tried selecting “Ride” with “indoor” option and it worked well:

Compared to just Virtual ride:

Note that I’m editing existing Workout in my calendar. Could it be connected to the fact that I set my indoor FTP only today?

It shouldn’t matter when you changed your indoor FTP. I am not sure what is happening here. I just played around with that workout “as you” and it all worked perfectly. I left it on virtual ride.

Thanks! Now it all sorted

@david I have the same problem for some other sports where Indoor FTP is not shown when creating the workout. I think this is a general issue, but here is my case.

I do cross country skiing (Nordic skiing) and with Garmin you now get skiing power similar to running power.

I also do indoor ski training on a machine with a power meter (SkiErg) and this will automatically be uploaded as Nordic Skiing. The powers for skiing outside and inside cannot really be compared as skiing engages your full body (even more than running) does that to a lesser extent. I therefore requested a separate activity for that:

Would it be possible to:
a) create a skierg activity,
b) add support for user/custom activities, or
c) add support for selecting indoor for all activities (or at least if both an indoor and outdoor FTP is defined).

Maybe b) could be a good option as the list of sports are potentially endless. Even for Nordic skiing you would normally differentiate between classic and skate as these will have a 10 % difference in speed, use different equipment, and very different in technique.

The issue with custom activity types is that it would be a lot of work to implement + without support in FIT files and Strava the type would need to be manually selected.

You can select indoor for all activities. Click the activity icon and tick/untick the trainer box. Likewise any workout can be set as indoor using the indoor checkbox. Activities with the trainer flag set or “Virtual” in the type are considered indoor.

I have just made one change. If you change an activity from outdoor to indoor or indoor to outdoor and its FTP was set to the matching setting from its sport, then it’s FTP will be changed to the new setting.

So you can upload a Nordic Ski activity from Strava and then tick the trainer box If it was SkiErg and it will get your indoor FTP and be re-analysed.

Thanks.

In my case it is for planned activities/workouts. I am not able to set them to trainer and therefore get the expected FTP target.

I just tested that on a run and it seems to work:

Indoor checked so indoor FTP of 250 used:

Thanks for helping out. It works for run:

However, the “Indoor” checkbox is removed/hidden when I change to Nordic Ski (or just select that in the first dialog):

Ah sorry. I just enabled the indoor checkbox for a bunch of activity types.

Thanks, I am able to check that box now!
