TrainingPeaks calendar import improved

Planned workouts are now imported as “Workout” so they show up properly on the calendar. The workout type and planned time are extracted.

Does anyone know if it is possible to get TP to include “Planned TSS” in the exported calendar? Trainer Road does that and then you can see your future fitness.

The PMC chart in TP shows future ‘fitness’ if that helps? (based on planned TSS).

Can you get planned workouts from a TrainerRoad calendar into Intervals.icu as well? I didn’t realise there was a calendar export feature from TR yet. That might suit my ‘needs’ better than the TP Calendar at the moment.

Al.

Yes TR calendars import with training load so thats actually a better option than importing from TP.

Cool, I’ve just tried the TR calendar import and it does indeed pull in training load as well.

One small issue with it - It puts all workouts in as bike workouts whereas in TR they are categorised as swim, bike, run and other (strength and kayak for me) workouts. The ‘Event Type’ doesn’t seem to get imported. Is that something that can be fixed?

Thanks,
Alan.

I just had a look and TR doesn’t include the event type in the Calendar export. Do you edit the summary info yourself?

SUMMARY:4:00 - Hill Walk

I could use that to try identify the activity type, defaulting to “Ride”. Will give that a shot soon.

Hi David,
I don’t usually edit the summary info myself. I’ve been using the new TR Plan Builder feature which has created the plan for me and therefore populated the next few months of workouts into my TR Calendar. I have then added a few workouts to this (Kayak and Strength workouts) that weren’t auto-created by the Plan Builder. All of the upcoming workouts in my TR calendar have an activity type associated with them and subsequently a little swim, bike or run icon on them. See below:

I have just imported a TR Calendar into my Calendar app on my Mac to take a look though and I see what you mean. The data in the Calendar Export doesn’t include the Activity Type.
It does however look as though all run sessions do have the word ‘Run’ in their title, and all swim sessions the word ‘Swim’ in their title. When I add Kayak workouts I add the word ‘Kayak’ to them as well so there is some consistency. The Bike workouts don’t have the word ‘Ride’ in them though as they are given a title that refers to the name of the TrainerRoad workout so as you say you would have to default to ‘Ride’ for anything that doesn’t have other specific Swim, Run, Kayak etc. in the title.

I also notice that the swim workouts in the TR Calendar export don’t include the planned duration of the workout either (whereas the other activity types do). This means that Swim workouts seem to get added to the Intervals.icu Calendar as notes rather than workouts.

Sorry… It’s never easy or straight forward is it! Although in this case that is due to inconsistent Calendar Exporting on behalf of TR.

The calendar imports for TR and TP are now much more likely to correctly pickup the type of each workout. It checks the title/summary and there are other heuristics.

Hi. I guess TP doesn’t export the predicted TL value in the calendar. Would it be possible to allow editing that manually?

Do I need to have a premium account in TP to import the calendar to Intervals? If not, how can I do that?

[EDIT]: Just added my outlook calendar to Intervals (containing the future workouts from my garmin) and got the following error on intervals.icu:

Invalid ID for region-based ZoneId, invalid format: Romance Standard Time
java.time.DateTimeException: Invalid ID for region-based ZoneId, invalid format: Romance Standard Time

I should do that. However if you can get “TSS 123” or similar into the workout Intervals.icu will pick that up.

Ah, yes, this works. Also when in the workout description. Thanks, this is perfectly sufficient

@david I hope you can help me.

I would like to import a 12 week plan which I bought through TP. What is the best way to do this without exporting every single workout from TP and then importing into Intervals?

Thank you very much and best regards

I don’t think there is any easy way to do it currently :frowning: Not a lot of incentive for TP to make that easy.

Thank you very much for the quick info but I already suspected it. I searched for a long time in TP to find an option for a complete export and just wanted to make sure I hadn’t overlooked it.

Hi, it doesn’t take so much.
I did it some days ago
export each single workout (in zwift format for exampe), then import it to intervals.icu
The good thing of that is that you can review your workouts in details

I do not mind if admin takes this reply to make another thread/topic, probably it would be best to split from this one, but please - if anyone can explain these two things after connecting the Trainerroad calendar to Intervals.icu I get these icons (check marks and no enter marks with percentage) - do they mean how close to initial ride I have done my routine?

Also, after connecting the calendar, my form updated from -6 Grey zone to -14 Green zone. What is seen more by Intervals algorithm when using training plan in the calendar?
Update: planned workouts contribute to the calculation until the end of the day, which means - if you still have not done training planned on the particular day, it will be included in calculation to show the form, fitness and training stress. I changed in TR calendar the entry for a day in the future and I am back to form -6 Grey zone.

Thanks for the replies!

Yes, they check compliance against the ride/workout you had planned in your calendar.
