Training Load calculation from heart rate data gives incorrect numbers

I have some activities with heart rate data only that have training load numbers that are clearly not right. For exmaple yesterday I did just under 2 hours with 3*30 mins sub threshold intervals, which has a load value of 195 - suggesting that I spent the entire time at threshold, despite the fact the the binning of the HR data does not show any time whatsoever at >100% threshold heart rate. The “training load error %” plot on the heart rate page looks to be biased to me, and includes some activities where something has clearly gone wrong (e.g. I have one ride with 129% error…)

Please msg be a link to your yesterdays activity and I will have a look. For some people switching to the “Average HR” model for training load calcs produces better results. You can do this in /settings. But don’t do it yet, I want to have a look at your data first!

I’m not familiar with the forum, but I don’t seem able to send private messages?

I have supposedly relaxed the security restriction that prevented new users from sending messages.

I have changed your settings to use the “Average HR” model and it is getting better results. That activity is now 125. For chunks of your history your FTP is too low and this impacts training load for those activities (and hence predictions for HR only stuff). Example this one:

https://intervals.icu/activities/2306209896

Thats 1h of riding with intensity of 107% and load of 116. You should not be able to get those numbers for a 1h ride. Max intensity is 100% and load 100 if your FTP is correct.

You can use the “Edit” option on the calendar to change your FTP for different time periods.

Great thanks - I;d added some more historival data to strava recently but hadn’t thought to go back and update the historical FTP for all of this.
