Suunto Intervals using PRESS LAP

I am probably doing something wrong here or maybe Suunto will not continue to next interval without pressing the LAP button. My intent is to use the LAP button as a quick exit of the current interval, for instance, finish warm early and advance to next set. My question is how this should work? Does “press lap” require pressing the LAP button to advance only? Implying that it will not automatically advance to next interval or set? Below is an example of what I am trying to do.

Warmup

  • 3m 67% HR 66rpm press lap

Mainset 8x

  • Hard 60s 75-80% HR press lap
  • Easy 60s 60-70% HR press lap

Cooldown
-10m ramp 75-70% HR press lap

Can’t speek for Suunto specifically but most units simply jump to the next interval when your press LAP. On Garmin, for sure, you just specify a lap time, and when you want to finish that lap early to go to the next, you just press LAP.
When you specify “press LAP”, it will stay in the current LAP as long as you didn’t press LAP. Time has no meaning together with press LAP.

Yes from Suunto perspective, setting press lap will only move to the next phase when you press it. If you don’t set press lap, the workout is automated (no button presses needed) but when you do set it, depending on how many steps you set it on, you can end up with a manual activity (requiring lap button press to move along the workout).

This is the default and for most, the expected/desirable behavior.
