Strava visibility update: Coaching is ok!

Tx David, best outcome!

The bottom line is that if Strava doesn’t like what you are doing they can withdraw API access. It is like that with any 3rd party service. So it is good to get clarification on what they are looking for and what they are concerned about.

Have they clarified the no analysis of a user’s data issue?

THANKS DAVID.

YOU ARE GOD AMONGST MEN.

I’m going to pool more money to support premium intervals.icu for many years to come.

Legal “cover your ass” to deal with abuse perhaps?

It is really a problem to be fair, tons of people just click Yes/Accept without understanding what they’re doing on the Internet and share way more data than they’re really aware of.

Just for fun look what sites you’ve linked your Strava to. I did it recently and found a few links I completely forgot about that have been tracking all my rides. Do I care? Still not really, I guess, but … probably I should.

But this is excellent news. Intervals.icu coaching definitely seems like a more than sensible use case…

As happened with relive.cc, I’m sure Strava will rely on their shonky T&Cs when they have their own coaching interface developed.

I suspect this is a bullseye

Obviously Strava’s ultimate goal is to get rid of companies like Intervals.icu and bring everything in-house as much as they can. Coaching must be a top priority on their radar and won’t be surprised if they announce coaching sometime next year.
For me Strava was awesome and now is really starting to suck the air out of the room. I’m even thinking of downloading all my activities and close my paying account with them. This is so tiresome every 3-6 months to have a crazy announcement that is pointing to their ultimate goal to trump and disappear all their cycling competition.

Yes it looks to me like they’ve had some lawyers look at the agreement and the lawyers have come up with something that makes sure they cant be sued if Strava are sued or prosecuted. Net result is that the document basically says that 3rd party developers can’t do anything.

I’ve not been able to download my Strava data due to a system overload or something for a week now.

I did END my subscription though.

Great, any changes in the analytics Intervals.icu provides as a result of the changes agreement?

What do you make of their API rules, though? Forbidding use of Strava data for analytics doesn’t seem very ambiguous, and is the core of what Intervals offers. How can they state that in their policy but allow (amazing) sites like this to exist? I’m hesitant to believe Strava is done being the bully on this one, hoping you got more definitive advice on how it affects Intervals?

Why dont you implement Segment compare and gpx Visualization and leave strava alone? .
People will move to Intervalls.icu

I am planning to add proper segments soon.

No changes fortunately.

I wrote an importer for the archive Strava sends you when you request all of your data. This is not subject to the API terms and conditions.

Can groups (with a coach?) share data among group members?

Not yet but I am planning to do exactly that soon.

Unless you’ve received legal guarantees in writing, time unlimited, I think you’ll find these apparently limited concessions will disappear quite quickly. The intent is clear and they doubled down in their updated statement on the issue. They’re just waiting for the outrage to subside.

Strava’s dead for me.

I use Bryton Rider to record my activities, and there’s no direct integration between intervalos and Bryton App.

Is there any way I could allow my Intervals followers to see my activities that came from Strava api?

Any settings I could set on Strava or Intervals? I don’t care for my privacy on Intervals :joy:

unfortunately, it’s a No… (unless you do manual upload to intervals)
