Strava synching for split activity

Yesterday I did a ride, recorded with Garmin Edge and synched to Strava, and from there to Intervals. Shortly after finishing the ride I split it into three activities ( to the start, the ride itself, and busy roads home again). Intervals does have all three activities, with the updated names. BUT the first activity holds the data for the whole ride, instead of 20mins and 6 km it is also duplicating to 100km of the main activity and the final end piece.
Do I have to do a bunch of manual steps, or how do I force a resynch.? Is this something that can be fixed or what should I do…?

You could try Actions → Reprocess File to reload the file from Strava.

Where did you split? Because that’s where it went wrong.
What actually happens is that total distance and time are taken from the summary fields. What should happen, is that these are recalculated from the time and distance stream.

Thanks, I tried that yesterday and again today….did not solve the issue

I did the split within the Strava website ( browser). The activities all look right within Strava

Here’s an example of what I mean. This is a view from Gotoes utility.

The values in the yellow section are summary values and simply go through to the first part. The next parts have recalculated values from the point you split.
If distance was recalculated from the lat/long position, it would be correct for all three parts. It’s not because Strava ‘shows’ it correct, that the info in the FIT file is correct. Strava always calculates the distance and is not using the summary field for it.
Take your original file and Crop it in Intervals to keep only the first part and let us know if the values are correct if done that way. I bet they will…
First select the part you want to keep and then go to Actions - Crop.
FIT files contain a lot of information and not all software suites use all (correctly). even worse, most don’t update all info correctly when editing the activity.

The Section Remover in fitfiletools.com will probably also do it correctly.

Can you delete and undelete the activity? Maybe this will force a resync.

Thanks MedTechCD !
I have read you guidance above carefully, after trying a couple of other steps. I now have success. To summarise (for other users)

  1. I used the SPLIT in STRAVA to break the ride into 3 activities - Intervals then updates names of the activities, but on the first activity, the total ride is in the file
  2. THEN in INTERVALS, I opened the 1st activity to edit. Dragged the cursor to highligh what part of the activity I ‘really’ want as the activity and then used CROP (in intervals) Now - all is good !

That’s what I expected. If you split in Strava, the first part will simply have the summary fields from the entire ride. Strava isn’t removing those, because they’re not using them in any case. The next parts will have empty summary fields.
Intervals will prioritize what’s in the distance summary field, and only if nothing is available there, it will recalculate from lat/long. That’s what Intervals did on the second and third part. On the first part it only recalculated from lat/long after cropping.

You may need to unsync and re-sync the updated Strava activities to fix the overlap
