First of all keep Strava connected. Intervals.icu will replace matching Strava activities when they come in from other sources. Intervals.icu is busy integrating with Zwift (it is done, they are testing) but I can’t say when that will be released.
You won’t lose your past Strava activities with this change, they just won’t be visible to your followers and coaches. Also that isn’t going to happen for a couple of weeks.
You can connect Wahoo as well. Intervals.icu will pull in those activities like it does for Garmin.
It’s very easy to get Strava out of the loop and use with Garmin/Wahoo directly. Navigate to Settings using the button on the left nav bar and the bottom has a number of options. I moved away from Strava last year or so when they changed my sub from annual (cheaper) to month-to-month (more expensive) without asking - switched to using Garmin and took about 1 minute. Very easy thanks to David’s great work.
So, this sounds important, I just want to make sure I understand it. If you see the same activity come in via Garmin Connect and Strava, you will replace the Strava activity with the Garmin activity thus avoiding the Strava issues? That sounds like a great strategy for dealing with Strava!
Do you have a garmin or a wahoo. If you do then dual record and save the wahoo or Garmin file and then it can sync to Intervals.
On a frivolous note I can see old garmins etc with dead batteries having some value. Now - which drawer did I put my old Edge 520 in?
Hey! I left, or rather, they finally manufactured a reason to kick me out Their loss.
Got an email from TR today. You know how they talk down “capacitive” training on the bike? It seems they approve of capacitive training for strength.
This year I’ve turned back the hands of time (from strength POV) and am stronger now than 30 years ago. By NOT doing capacitive training the way TR sees it. Since Coach Chad was shown the door, a non coach keeps making claims that are not true in my experience.
So better I stay away versus posting hard evidence you can train strength and endurance in ways that deliver strong results, and without significant interference. Just because someone hasn’t done an intervention or longitudinal study doesn’t invalidate the lessons of real-world coaching.
Been wanting to just get away from Strava for a while now and this is the perfect impetus. I just downbloaded all of my Strava data - what is the easiest way to upload all of the fit / gpx files to intervals.icu in one fell swoop? (I have ~3,500 activities / files to upload) Thanks!
Best not to take it personally. Deep in the terms & conditions for Strava you’ll find they carve out wide latitude for them to do whatever they please with your data. This is the case for just about every social media company. Once you give them your data, it becomes theirs to use.
@david perhaps a niche question / situation, but once Zwift integration is complete, how will dual-recorded activities be handled (eg Zwift and Garmin head unit)? The Zwift data will obviously have a route, elevation, power, cadence, HR, etc whereas the Garmin (or other head unit) will only have power, cadence, HR, etc but no route or elevation. If both Zwift and Garmin are set to sync with Intervals, which takes precedence?
This creates an interesting GDPR issue. On the basis of article 20(2) GDPR I have the right to have intervals.icu transfer my data directly to a third party such as Dropbox. You can’t do that without violating Strava’s terms. Have you asked Strava how you are supposed to deal with data portability requests?
How does Strava retroactively change conditions on past activities? We all used the API in the past with the then current policies, are they able to force those ones to be hidden as well??
I agree. Using Dropbox is the best option in my opinion. I run Zwift on Windows and when Strava was limiting API calls a few years ago, I installed Dropbox and never looked back. You can make a symbolic link within the Zwift Activities folder to your Dropbox folder and it will sync when you’re done with your workout. I’ve barely had problems since.
More than half of my friends that are not using Garmin or Wahoo computers are using Magene computers and their OnelapFit app. Magene’s customer service/feedback team has been quite responsive whenever we tried contacting them about software or firmware bugs, hopefully they be can added to direct integration eventually.
