I use plotaroute now. Only came across it a few days ago but it looks like a great app/site.
No direct sync with Wahoo but I upload a gpx to OneDrive and sync that to the Wahoo Elemnt app mobile folder and that’s it!
Nice one, have to check that out.
My progress so far:
- plot route on gpx.studio
- load gpx file into EasyRoute (iOS)
- that allows me to adjust (add, change, delete) navigation cues
- export that as tcx
- import into ELEMNT app
- syncs automatically to my ROAM V2
edit: i don’t think the folder syncing is possible on iOS
edit2: looks like I can skip EasyRoute and do the cues directly in plotaroute
Since I also ride a lot of gravel, my number one mapping tool has become Komoot. They’ve made big progress and I think it is much better than Strava for creating rides.
have been using plotaroute to plot all my local group ride and malaysia ride. i don’t need the additional features on Premium, so i just stick with their Free version.
done plotting, download gpx, login to my garmin connect account and import(after import, remember to send to device).
anytime when i swtich-on my garmin edge 530, it will autosync.
by the way, their total elevation of the route shown, is off by few hundred metre gain. not sure why, maybe am on free version with limited map choice but am not concern at all, important is their route is accurate.
I also use plotaroute esp for adding check point details to GPX from trail runs and import it to GC and then to my garmin.
Has anyone figured out how to avoid duplicating all turn cues? I tried yesterday and it added 50m warnings before every navigation cue, which (at least on my Wahoo ROAM) is kinda redundant.
Also the navigation cues are cut off in length. Looks like I’ll stay with EasyRoute for Navigation Cues for a while. And in that case I like the simpler interface and “better” default routing (race bike vs bike) from https://gpx.studio
My bike mounted unit is a Lezyne, which uses Komoot as the navigation partner. What I like is being able to download maps for offline use, which is great for the areas I rode in; local and the odd business trips or holidays.
To add another wrinkle to this topic. I use Rouvy and did a test to see whether my Rouvy rides would cross over to Intervals if I disabled my Strava connection from Rouvy to Strava [to simulate cancelling Strava], in other words my Rouvy rides wouldn’t sync with Strava but they would still go to Garmin Connect. In this scenario the rides didn’t make it to Intervals even though they did get to Garmin Connect. I believe this is because Garmin won’t pass on activities from 3rd party platforms, now if I recorded the Rouvy ride on my Garmin device it would have sync’s Garmin Connect and then to Intervals. Based on this test, it seems that you need Strava if you use a 3rd party platform like Rouvy in order to get your activities into Intervals even though they do sync to Garmin Connect from Rouvy.
Yes
Yes.
Although there was a time when Strava turned this off and then there was a HUGE backlash and after a few days, it was turned back on.
if you have millions of subs where >90% are non-paying, there is quite a lot of incremental cost in sending those bits of data everywhere (automatically)
Flybys are disabled by default for privacy issues. When Strava made that change a few years ago they turned them off for everyone and required the user to go in and turn it back on themselves. As a result most people didn’t bother to go in and turn them on again, or didn’t know about flybys.
