I’m new to Intervals.icu and really enjoying the platform so far, but I’ve run into an issue I can’t solve.
I’m having a problem with running power data from my Garmin Forerunner 265. This issue affects not just one, but all of my runs . The power data is clearly visible in Garmin Connect for every run, but it consistently fails to appear for any of them in Intervals.icu.
I have already tried the following troubleshooting steps without success::
Completely disconnected and re-authorized the Garmin connection with full permissions.
Used the “Reprocess File” function on several activities.
Checked that “Ignore Power” was not accidentally enabled under “Actions → Settings” (it is not).
Verified the type of the activities is correctly set to “Run”.
Tried to manually upload the original .FIT file from Garmin for one activity. The power data is still missing even after this.
Even the manual upload of the .FIT file, which definitely contains the power data, does not work. This suggests there might be an issue with parsing this specific file in Intervals.icu.
Could someone please take a look at this?
Here is the link to one of the activites in question:
I am happy to provide the original .FIT file for analysis.
It’s probably in a ‘dev field’ and to make it visible in Intervals you have to instruct Intervals to read it at the correct place.
Go to Actions menu at the bottom of the activity timeline tab and choose Settings. Under Power, check if there’s another field with name different from the standard ‘power’ name, select it and check the box to use it by default for future activities in the same category.
I checked that setting under “Actions → Settings → Power”, but “power” was the only field available to choose from, and it was already selected.
However, I think I’ve found the actual reason. I just noticed a message on the activity page that says:
“This activity has power data. Add your FTP and power zones for running in settings to enable power analysis.”
This seems to be the core of the issue. Unfortunately, since I’m completely new to intervals.icu, I don’t know my FTP or my power zones yet.
What would be the best way to get started here? Which values should I insert here?
Just enter something to see your results, and then schedule a test that will allow you to narrow it down.
Power from watches is not something very consistent in between make and model. It still is a calculation and not a direct measurement like in cycling.
Depending on your running expertise something along the lines of 200 - 300W should be ok as a starting point.
Then just use a zone preset and re-analyze the activity.
EDIT: is Garmin Connect giving you any projection on your running FTP?
Thanks for the hint about Garmin Connect. I checked there, and you were right, Garmin does give me an anaerobic threshold of 319 W.
Even though that 319 W value seems a bit high to me at first glance, I’ve now used it as my initial running FTP in the Intervals.icu settings. I re-analyzed the activities, and it worked perfectly! All my power data is now showing up.
One follow-up question: Besides setting the FTP, should I also enter the current threshold pace value from Garmin into my running pace zone settings in intervals.icu?
That’s always a good idea because it allows you to compare Load from HR/Pace/Power. And it gives you the freedom of designing workouts with all three targets.
