Thanks that is helpful.
As a Polar Vantage V user I am also very interested. There aproach to running power is different tot stryd so custom settings for running FTP are very ussefull and mean something different for the used energy calculation. https://thesecretofrunning.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/20190109-Why-are-Stryd-and-Polar-Running-Power-numbers-different.pdf
any progress on this? I am happy to help if you need some testing
Sorry I have been a bit busy with all the âlow hanging fruitâ charts stuff. I will get on it but its quite a research topic to figure out what to do with running power data.
Well, I think for a first step if you allow to enter a running power ftp/Wâ in our settings and use it the same way than for bike, itâd more than enough for most of us. And we could suggest idea/request based on that.
By âsame way than for bikeâ, I mean :
- having the training load computation based on the power value instead of HR
- being able to display Power Curves / power profile for running
- being able to use the running ftp in the workout builder
- having running power zones
Yes, it doesnât have to be different from Bike FTP. The easiest way would be to add it as a 3rd FTP (in addition to indoor and outdoor bikerides) and have it filtered and applied to only running activities
Hey David, if at some point there would be separate Zones for Running and Cycling would it be somehow possible to use different Zones (assuming thatâs even the right way to approach this) based on ones TT vs Road Bike FTP?
Using different zones for different bikes would be quite a bit of work to implement. Different FTP is relatively easy which effectively adjusts the zones. I suspect different zones for running with power will be a requirement.
Different FTP would already be very useful. I couldnât find any other platform that supports this either.
I really need to generalise this. Set FTP to use for any unique combo of indoor/outdoor, bike (and later sport). The bike could also be used as proxy for the power meter. Natural extension would be a ây = mx + câ transformation to apply to the power data for matching activities.
These would also form the basis for filtering power curves on the /power page and so on.
That would be great. Should I open a new thread for this (feature request) to not mix it with this thread?
No itâs fine. I keep everything in a Google doc with links back to original posts and so on.
I just now noticed that on my runs with Stryd, while power is displayed correctly, there are no power metrics displayed on the page or for the intervals? Is that the way itâs intended?
Yes I still need to implement support for running power. Need separate FTP (sport specific e.g. for rowing), set of power curves and so on.
thatâs fine, just making sure I wasnât missing something.
Have you got in touch with Stryd? Iâm pretty sure they would be keen on importing workouts into their power center and pushing them to the watch.
Right now the only way is via TP.
My experiences with a Polar Grit-x watch and Xert lead me to the conclusion that I would really need to be able to permanently disable running power calculations in a setting. The power from the watch is always high compared to similar effort cycling, but too variable for an easy fix, maybe because my running is rough off-road - not even trails. I have to reduce it anywhere between 5% and 15% to make it look reasonable.
In Xert I had to strip out the power using fit file tools first to force it to use HR to calculate load, which I would prefer to avoid if possible.
Any update on this topic?
