Hi, If i go for a 3 hour ride, and stop for a total to 30 mins within that , so 3hr30 total.
my watts for the ride will be spread over the total time not just my actual ride time,
is there a way to adjust this.
I have only really noticed this since i have fitted a power meter to my bike as that will display a higher watts as it only shows my watts over the actual ride time
No and that’s how it should be. It’s not because you can do x Watts in 3.5hours with a pause, that you can do the same without a pause. Maybe you can, but you haven’t really done it so it should not be in your results.
What you can do is make 2 intervals, one before the pause and one after. Then you can see all parameters per interval without the pause.
If you are referring to several smaller pauses from your device’s Auto-Pause, I can understand that users new to Power metrics may find this strange. Auto-Pause on your device is understandable if you only use speed. You want to have an idea what your average speed is while riding, not when stopping at traffic lights. But if you would do the same with Power measurements, you must understand that Intervals would detect an FTP that is blown-up and not sustainable. And you do use FTP for training targets and zones. The result would be that you are constantly training way too hard. Just like any other reputable cycling training app, Intervals respects the timeline, regardless if you were moving or not. Time not moving, allows recovery and must be taken in account for performance measurements. Imagine you ride up a hard hill, pause to recover at the top of the hill, then quickly ride down in a quarter of the time it takes to ride up and repeat the effort. If recover time was not counted, your FTP would be way higher then what you’re capable off and it would throw all calculations off.
Cheers for that i Totally understand why now, makes total sense.
Thanks
