Ride Atlas — a free cycling route planner with wind, climbs and café stops

Hi everyone,

Every time I planned a ride for my wife and me, I ended up switching between several websites: one for the route, another for weather and wind, then searching for cafés and checking which hills we wanted to ride—or avoid.

So I started building Ride Atlas to bring those things together and make planning our rides easier.

It’s a web-based planner focused on road cycling. You can:

  • Plan a route or import a GPX.
  • See forecast headwinds, tailwinds and crosswinds along the route, based on your departure time and estimated progress.
  • View elevation, gradients and climbs.
  • Find cafés and other stops nearby.
  • Export GPX or TCX files.
  • And many more that I’m not going to describe here

Try it here: Ride Atlas

Just for destkop use now!

It’s free to try and still an early beta. I’ve mostly built it around our own needs, so I’d appreciate feedback from other cyclists—especially this community.

Intervals.icu API integration is planned to bring rider information into the rider(s) and reduce manual setup. That connection isn’t available yet; deciding which rider data would be most useful is part of what I’d like your feedback on.

If you have a few minutes, try planning a familiar ride and let me know:

  • Was anything confusing or difficult to use?
  • Did anything about the route or weather look wrong?
  • What would make it useful alongside Intervals.icu?
  • Which rider information would you want the planned integration to use?

Weather forecasts and ride-time estimates are approximate, so please check unfamiliar roads before riding exported file.

I’m also making the project open source. Honest feedback is welcome, including what would stop you using it.

Thanks!

Hey,
I love the idea!
would be nice to have like a pub on/off button during the planning so you can easely adjust your route to include a place to stop. Also bikeshops can be handy when running flat as an on off.
Also the option to exclude certain road types as for instance unpaved routes might be interesting so people with a race bike don’t get send over roads that would end them up having a flat tire.
It might just be me but the fact that the left colum goes seperately up and down from the rest of the screen makes navigating the site a bit more difficult. But as said that is maybe just me.

Keep up te good work and good luck!
Best regards,
Bob

Hi, thanks for the feedback! I already have a few ideas on how to make the UI simpler and easier to navigate. Ideas for improvements keep coming, but the challenge is to keep everything practical and easy to use.

The café and restaurant feature is already there! You can turn it ON in the top-left corner to show all cafés and restaurants. You can then click on any of them to add them to your route, and the route will automatically reroute to include that stop.

It also shows opening hours (although this feature seems to be having some issues at the moment). Since the app already knows your planned arrival time, it can even warn you if a place is going to be closed when you get there!
