it would be great if Intervals could offer an official MCP server alongside the API, so users could securely connect their data to ChatGPT and other AI tools for training analysis, progress reviews, and better insights.
The biggest advantage would be simplicity and trust: instead of relying on unofficial community solutions, which require own Servers, complex Setup, … users would have a supported and secure way to access their data with AI.
A few reasons why this could be valuable:
secure and official integration
much easier setup for normal users
read-only access by default for safety
fine-grained permissions/scopes
reliable access to activities, wellness, intervals, trends, and progress data
a great fit as a Premium-only feature
I think this would be a very strong addition and could make Intervals.icu one of the best platforms for AI-assisted training analysis.
would be great, also as it is not only about training analysis of the past but also to get ai-based recommendations and trianing plans (and not need to get access / subsriptions to training platforms that offer these features)
@martin_trialist That’s exactly what I’ve been using it for. I built an extended version (AI tool integration for Claude) that goes beyond reading data — it can actually write to your calendar, bulk-create training plans, manage your workout library and gear.
I’d also really welcome an official MCP for Intervals.icu.
With the growing number of different community MCPs, it’s getting hard to know which one to use. And for many users, setting these up locally or on a server is probably too complex anyway. An official, supported MCP would make this much more accessible and reliable.
I agree. Just wanted to point out there is some alternative. Also noticed that there are now even commercial version out there with training plan creation.
At the end it will be easy to create an official one now, you just need to look at the different ones outthere and see which ones solved most problems and also how they approached it differently.
While the official MCP is still pending, I’ve been building BioStride (https://biostride.uk) — it reads directly from the Intervals.icu API (no MCP setup needed on the user side) and uses Claude AI to build a full triathlon season plan based on your actual fitness data, race targets, and weekly load.
It’s early but free to try. Would love feedback from this community on whether the AI-generated workouts feel calibrated to your actual fitness level.
This is exactly the gap I built IntervalSync for, so rather than add a “+1” here is what already exists against the spec in the first post.
It’s a hosted remote MCP server — nothing to run, no server of your own, no config file. You sign in with Intervals.icu OAuth and paste one URL into Claude, ChatGPT, or Grok. IntervalSync never sees your API key; it holds a revocable token you can withdraw from your workspace, and every connected assistant is listed separately so you can cut one without touching the others.
On the points raised above specifically:
Read-only by default — writes are confirmation-gated and limited to planned workouts and wellness. Nothing can touch a completed activity.
Scopes — Intervals.icu OAuth scopes are requested narrowly; a read-only account is asked for read scopes only.
Setup — three steps in your assistant’s connector settings. There is a per-platform guide for Claude, ChatGPT, and Grok.
Free to try — 30 days of full access, then a Free tier that keeps working at one pull per tool per day.
Worth being straight about the two limits people hit: Strava-synced activities aren’t fully readable (a Strava API restriction that applies to every tool here, not just this one), and ChatGPT needs a paid plan on the web since custom connectors aren’t available on free accounts.
I’d still rather Intervals.icu shipped an official one — @david, is there any appetite for it? Happy to hand over anything useful I’ve learned building this, and I’d sooner see it native than compete with it.
I am currently using the Strava MCP to get my training data into Claude. I would highly appreciate an official intervals MCP, too!
PS: Two observations and a question:
the fact that there are great open source project solving this already stresses the fact that the effort to offer the MCP can’t be that high
the fact that paid MCP subscriptions for intervals are a thing (see all the promotional posts here) seem to stress the fact that there is a demand in the user base
Intervals, what’s the reasoning behind not acting on this?
@david — would it be possible to get at least a short bit of feedback on this request?
Even a simple “No, this is currently not something we plan to support” would already help, just so we know where we stand.
And of course, something like “Yes, this is interesting and we’ll have a look at it” would be great as well.
There seems to be quite a bit of interest in using Intervals.icu directly with AI tools such as ChatGPT and Claude, and an official MCP integration would make this much easier and more reliable than maintaining custom solutions.
No pressure for any timeline or commitment — just a short indication of whether this is something you might consider at all would be very much appreciated. It would also help us decide whether it makes sense to invest the time in setting up and self-hosting one of the existing community MCP solutions, or whether it might be better to wait for a possible official implementation.
I first learned about it through ChatGPT. after using it for so long, I assumed it was an official project because the tool was so well-developed. It’s really cool to see that it’s actually your project here. I’ve integrated it into my agent, and it’s been a huge help to me. thanks a lot!
I appreciated you taking the time to provide feedback! By now we have many contributors already on the project and it keeps improving especially since everyone uses it slightly different.
The beauty of it is, its just plain intervals and no custom logic on top. At the end it was taking what was out there and bring it to the next level.
This is it what I am also expecting on the longely awaited official intervals MCP. Hopefully it will make set up even easier with OAUTH authentificaiton.
