TBH, I’d love to see this feature on my own workouts, for my personal reference, not just for the athletes I’m coaching!
Any chance it could be added platform-wide?
(Or is this already an option and I’m just missing where I turn it on)

It’s a bit complicated because for athletes with coach(es) it needs to be only editable by them. The “Feel” option is available to athletes. Also RPE.
Roger that… I guess I just like the options of the coaches tick (Amazing - WTF?) more than the feel options (Strong - Weak). hahaha
Hi @david , any update on when this will be done?
I know you are busy with the comparison page which is looking amazing.
Just checking in about this.
Cheers
Glen
It is in progress. My son has been working on it. He is new at this and I need to merge his work etc. so will take a little while.
Awesome. Thank you for the update ![]()
You can now add a comment to the activity when editing the coach’s tick. This is the same as typing a message in the chat for the activity, just quicker.
The coaches Tick with a comment has a bug. I get this message.
There need to be an exception for leaving the comments field blank I think.
This is as always great work David.
That was stupid. Fixed. Tx for the report.
Brilliant
Hey David, something seems to be off the Coach’s tick for me at the moment. A) I realized I can now tick planned workouts in the future ? At least I can try, intervals will then keep loading forever and nothing happens. And B) also for past activities the tick function is working extremely slow at the moment, many ticks will actually never make it through, sometimes they show as ticked but then when I reload the page its unticked again ..
That coach tick on planned workouts bug has been fix, tx.
As for the slowness, we haven’t been able to reproduce that. Is it still slow? I am hoping it was a temporary problem?
I’m on v3 beta version of intervals and inferring from comment above it’s implied the coach’s tick can be for planned workouts in the future - I do not have that tick. Am I on the wrong version of the product to be be seeing this? And, because I’m thrilled at the prospects of being able to tick AND comment based on future workouts, I’m hoping I’m interpreting this correct?
No it was showing up on future workouts in error. It is quite a bit of work to add that feature. It will likely get done though, but not right now.
Being a coach myself here of course, I can see why you would want to add comments in the future, but why would want to tick future workouts already ?
@david Thanks for the quick reply + fix ! As for the slow speed of ticks I can of course not rule out slow/unstable internet connection from my side, german digitalisation is a nightmare. I will observe this and let you know more details if I have any !
@Frederik_Niessen yeah, I do not care at all about a tick in the future, but I absolutely positively care about being able to communicate with my clients BEFORE they complete a workout for a given scheduled workout. When I interpreted there was a future tick, it wasn’t about the tick, it was about the ability to comment that I was excited about. So, if a tick is a way to get comments… I’m in support.
that’s super easy today by adding a note or amending the workout description, no?
@James_Eastwood_Socks in my opinion, no, it’s insufficient. The athlete or the coach doesn’t receive a notification and it depend on actually seeing it. Personally, with my clients, I don’t want to be missing a question on a workout or missing a response, etc. coming from TrainingPeaks lack of this feature, as I envision it, is a step back.
Basically, there are workarounds now.
You can also directly message an athlete? I’m, struggling to understand the use case that is missing.
@James_Eastwood_Socks and it appears I’m struggling to articulate the gap - perhaps that’s why the feature hasn’t been picked up yet. Without going thru every single scenario, I will say that in TrainingPeaks comment with notification is used multiple times per day. A few examples of where I see gaps:
question on a workout - so, to your recommendation, a client would need to send me a direct chat message saying - hey so this workout next Tuesday, can you explain what something means. The question is decoupled from the workout, so I have to get out of chat, go look at the workout and then go back to chat to respond. In TP, the comment is on the workout - and as the coach, 100% in context… versus a chat, or a text, or an email, etc. the context needs to be explained. Not to mention, the question/answer is not paired with the workout
A missed workout - without a workout being completed, I’m not able to comment in that workout to ask “is everything ok” or whatever the message is… I’d have to again, out of context, say “what’s up”?
Emphasis - reality is athletes don’t always read all the narrative in the workout - they just “loaded up on their device” and execute. I use the comment feature to get their attention that I have specific instructions that I want them to follow
To your point, all of these things CAN be communicated in other ways, however, I find the value in a platform is to centralize communication and have it be contextually specific. Let’s imagine: 20 athletes, that use email, messenger, text, Intervals chat, etc. to communication with me… the permutations of “threads” is unmanageable. By allowing this feature, communication is centralized AND specific.
Maybe I just need to change my context of usage from TrainingPeaks to Intervals, but being 100% honest, the few clients that I’ve converted to Intervals have asked to go back to TrainingPeaks because of the lack of this feature. I’m not trying to be nasty about it - but this is the reality of what I experienced and as a result, I haven’t converted more athletes over… Intervals has TONS over TrainingPeaks, no argument, but if I do not have effective communication with my athletes I view that as a bigger problem than the benefit of the 6000th app integration, better charting and analysis, etc.
With pre-completion comments implemented, little is holding me back to fully embracing the platform. I’ve worked as a software Product Manager for years, so my context is highly on coach and athlete user experience… so, just to add that context… and not to put too sharp of a point on it, but if this platform is intended for coaches… I think it’s an important feature. But, maybe I’m missing something so feel free to educate me.
