I think you are referring to this little skyline chart, and that it’s not showing on commutes.
You can control whether it shall shrink it or not under Options - Colours - Shrink Commute

Shrink warmup, cooldown and commutes on the calendar

You can now flag an activity as warmup/cooldown in addition to the existing commute and race flags.
