Power curve blobs

On the power tab what are the two blobs on the model curve? Apologies if this is a dumb question.

Not a dumb question

Those are the data points used to define the model curve. The longest duration one is for picking eFTP, the short one for calculating W’ (W prime). The model (Mortons 3P) also uses a 3rd parameter pMax, which is your 1 second power.

At the moment my two blobs are very close (30 seconds) but I seem to recall them being further apart; what governs their position on the model curve?

The “Est. FTP Min Duration” value in /settings is the min duration for the eFTP blob. The duration that gives you the highest eFTP value is used. The W’ blob is the point on the power curve with duration shorter than “Est. FTP Min Duration” that has the highest energy above eFTP. If they are close then maybe you need to increase “Est. FTP Min Duration”. The default used to be 180s which is too short, it is now 5 minutes but if you are good at short stuff you might want to make it longer.
