Power adjustment in bulk

I have a period of activities where my power data was inaccurate. It’s unfortunately a rather large amount of activities, so applying the Fix Data individually is a tall order. Any chance this could be added to the bulk edit feature?

A somewhat obvious use would be to apply this for specific equipment, where the data is available. Maybe the Edit functionality could use the more generic filter functionality from the compare screen, rather than simply having indoor/outdoor (although it’d suffice for me). This could then be extended support things like filtering by sensors. Anyway, I digress, my main question is about applying Power data fix in bulk.

In the interim, if you just need to raise or lower the power values by a certain percentage across the entire ride or remove a sensor’s data, e.g. HR, you could try https://www.fitfiletools.com/.

EDIT: On second read, I see you want to do this to many files and see that single file edits are already implemented in Intervals. I’ll leave my original response but it doesn’t get you any further than the tools already provided by Intervals.

Can you fix the power for these activities by applying a “y = mx + c” function like in the single activity fix data dialog?

With regards to sensors Strava doesn’t provide that data but I can get it from .fit files.

I will definitely be adding the general filter functionality to the bulk edit box.

Yes, that would be enough for my use case.

For context, this is from me discovering I have a (pretty consistent) leg imbalance and having a lot of data recorded with a single-side power meter. Data which is now significantly off when compared to indoor rides or my newer dual-side power meter. I realise it’s not going to be absolutely spot on across fatigue and power levels, but from inspecting data and dual-recordings, I’ll be quite a lot closer to reality than the numbers I currently have.

Hi @david
I was just playing around with the fix data functionality and was reverting my data with “Strava Sync”. Now that you are also gathering data from Garmin without dependency on Strava will this also resync from Garmin Connect?

Yes for Garmin Connect activities it says “Garmin Connect Sync”. Note that this functionality is currently broken for many activities. I have fixed the problem and am going to deploy Monday AM (GMT+2).

Thanks! I am considering cutting the Strava cord.

You should test that by enabling Garmin Connect download and unticking the Strava download box. You can have both enabled but sometimes that creates duplicate activities. I am still trying to figure out why. Always works when I test!

It is the way to go for the future. Intervals.icu already gets L+R power balance out of the .fit files and there is lots of other stuff that will eventually come (e.g. HRV if you have correct strap).

You do loose segments though.

I have thought through this a bit and I need to create a general “Bulk operations” workflow. So the “Edit” button on the calendar page switch to a full window view with 3 stages:

  • Select activities to modify with search controls and all matching activities shown on a compact table (bit like the list view) with checkboxes to select individual activities or all
  • Decide what to do to the selected activities (delete / undelete, edit FTP etc, fix power/HR etc) and “Apply” button
  • Progress page showing how many updated so far (some operations e.g. undelete will take a while) with option to stop

That sounds absolutely brilliant. Above and beyond :slightly_smiling_face:

Would it be possible to get the FTP data from the .fit file with the new synchronization with Garmin?

Yes I can. Thats an interesting problem though because if I use that instead of whats on Intervals.icu then you have to keep it up-to-date elsewhere. I could pull that out for older activities. That would work.

It would be great since if the FTP is updated on the Garmin device (increases or decreases) it is reflected in the .fit file, right?

I looked at one of mine and it was there. That might not always be the case though.

You can now bulk adjust power and/or HR and cadence data for multiple activities at once on the activity list page (click the list icon on the calendar page):

Adding columns and sorting can help find the activities you need to edit:

Hi David!
is is possible to add the “Type” in the multi edit window please?

thanks!

You can filter the activity list view to only show activities with a given type (or types) and then update only those.

David, is there an easy way to see or sort by bike so I can adjust power numbers in bulk? Not sure how the data from strava gets imported into the site, but it seems to strip my bike and power meter info so I can’t easily bulk sort based on that.

Sorry, I wasn’t clear. What I meant was that I would like to bulk update the “activity type” field. not bulk update only certain activity types.

thanks

Yes Strava doesn’t give power meter info. You should be able to add the “Gear” column in the activity list view and sort by that:

Aha. I have added that to the todo list. I already need to add threshold pace to that bulk update dialog.
