Thanks for the good work on intervals.icu, really great and useful. I’d like to make a paypal donation but paypal is charging 1.99 EUR for fees whatever the amount I choose to donate. I thought paypal.me is without fee (as it is for my own account). I’ve tried to change to USD or GBP but the result is the same.
Is it the same for everyone ?
I don’t know. I donated 10 USD to another project recently and there were no “overt” fees though I am sure the exchange rate used wasn’t in my favour (ZAR). I did some research before going with Paypal and Patreon and there aren’t a lot of options for this.
I don’t remember PayPal’s cut on my first one time donation, but I pay $4.84 for my monthly Patreon payments, whereas I believe only $4 goes to intervals.icu - that might be 21% VAT though…
Patreon is indeed charging VAT and about PayPal, I found it: beginning of January, I donated $25 and PayPal charged $4.26 - they just mention ‘Costs’ and VAT has nothing to do with it.
I just went through the process of another PayPal donation and on $10, they charge €3.99, which probably is pretty close to the earlier $4.26 - I may reconsider doing PayPal donations to anyone.
David is probably not even getting the full amount too…
Obviously, because I see others mention €1.99 - at any rate, for my country, this PayPal extra is a no-no. I don’t know when they started with it, but it wasn’t like that not too long ago…
Tx a stack. Thats a nasty fee. Eventually I will need to build “donation processing” into Intervals.icu but right now that will take lots of time away from development of new functionality + its not that easy todo from South Africa (e.g. can’t use Stripe).
I have tried paypal stripe payhip and they all charge high fees. Paypal fees are getting completely out of control imho. Sell an item on ebay and receive paypal and you will easily loose 20%.
Plus Australia, Canada, Singapore, Switzerland, and the United States - however, keeping an eye on it doesn’t hurt, but they may be in trouble, so not sure it will be an alternative.
