I would like to have my garmin watch’s watts scaled since it’s estimation has been shown to be far higher than any other power measure. Watts would be a great way to track training effort but it tends to push up my work load a ton compared to cycling power or heart rate. I’ve seen estimates claim that it’s about 50% higher in power than a force plated tredmill. Is there anyway to scale this?
What estimate? Power is measured for cycling and is the result of an algorithm for running.
If those are very different, you just need to set your FTP correctly for both categories and the resulting load will be scaled.
You can scale manually with the Actions - Fix data functionality, but if the sports you’re talking about are in a different category, there’s no reason to go through that hassle.
Sorry I meant to mention this was for running
. Garmin estimates running power on their newer watches
There isn’t a way to do this.
But it doesn’t really matter as long as you only use the one source for run power. Just set up your run power zones accordingly and load will be calculated relative to your set threshold.
I had the same question to address another problem, and implemented a custom stream to at least be able to see the diff.
Totally missed the fix data feature. I’m new here. That very neat.
My use case: I run with a Stryd most of the time. But sometimes, I forget it at a family members house. Or forget to charge it. Etc.
But I still have power. It’s just inferior. And higher, because it includes the mechanical leg spring power. Or something. Palladino wrote something about it.
Anyway. I put together a custom field to get the avg diff between Stryd and Garmin power when they’re dual recorded. Then used that as the scale. Averaged it out over the last few weeks ![]()
Not perfect. But let’s me at least track power (and do power workouts, with some effort) until the Stryd is back up.
